Those cases, whilst having some similarities on the face of things, are not directly comparable as the reporting was done after the jury had returned their verdict. Obviously the newspaper's lawyers advised that meant the reporting restrictions had been lifted. That was more a case of an error by the newspapers than any direct intention to flout the law.

"Robinson" did his live broadcast whilst the jury was considering it's verdict, ie whilst the restrictions were clearly still in place.

For where it's convenient you appear pretty certain what people's motivations are.

When it isn't convenient....suddenly it's....'who knows'?

So the newspaper made an error where Robinson was appartently deliberately flouting the law......Keep squirming and turning eventually you'll finish that game of twister.

Disingenuous no!!!

But yes I do know what's going on here. Someone has been convicted of an offence and is awaiting sentencing.

Do you know something else, or just think you do?

And how would one know?

Like anyone else, including you, I look at the circumstances and form an opinion.

Anyone not seeing a man being deliberately persecuted is either stupid or lying about their conclusions.

After a verdict on one charge but while the jury were still considering another so still potentially prejudicial.
In accordance with your self prescribed rules we can’t “know” what their intentions were.

No we can't but it seems very unlikely that their lawyers would have advised something that resulted in heavy fines and a stain on their reputation, nor that an editor would overrule them. So much more likely to have been a miscalculation or misunderstanding of the situation regarding the other charge.

Not as unlikely as someone who’s already been banged up knowingly committing the same offence.
What seems more likely is that the papers decided the potential fines were outweighed by the expected rise in circulation.

I am neither stupid nor am I lying and am offended at the accusation!

Looking at the circumstances objectively leads to only one conclusion! The man was found guilty of an offence. No opinions needed. That is a fact.

I feel sad for those who believe our justice system, which is both admired and copied around the world, is capable of deliberately persecuting anyone. To have lost your faith in British justice is to lose your faith in Britain.

The law might often be an ass but it is to everyone, without any special considerations. It persecutes no-one. It prosecutes those who it believes have committed a crime and where there is a reasonable expectation of a conviction.

This idea that "Robinson" has been singled out for some kind of special treatment is just baloney. It suits him to portray himself as a victim. Next he will become a martyr.

That the law was determined to ensure that he did not get away with what he did, and thus establish a dangerous precedent, looks likely. That not only makes sense it is also praiseworthy.

Those who they believe have committed a crime and a reasonable chance of conviction.
Pretty much sums it up really.
Believe is not proof

Why? Miscarriages of justice do not equal persecution.

Individuals can make mistakes. Humans are fallible.

We are talking though of an entire system, which is not the same at all.

Of course not. That's why there is a trial and why the defence is made. Due process is all important. It's where proof beyond a reasonable doubt is established.
