Could the two be linked? We had more police back in the 90's than we do now. our hospitals were running in budget with more beds. we had no housing shortage. wages grew each year.so on so on,

Why is mass population haled as such a success when it looks to be ruining this country.

I hear the argument of more workers more tax but clearly that's not working when we are borrowing more than ever.

I would be interested to get your views.

Mass immigration is a disaster waiting to happen.
When the idiots who promote it realise, it will be too late.
I suspect they don't care.

Giving hundreds of billions to the banks might have something to do with it.

Does anyone actually think that a country can use billions and billions of public money to bail out private finance and that country would not face decades of hardship.

I think that where you should be looking..

We didn't give it to the banks and on reselling the shares we have made a profit.
If they thought it was goner lose dough they wouldn't have done it.
Also it isn't the same as Freddie Mac and Fannie may in the USA.
It saved thousands of jobs as well.
Also the money spent wouldn't have been spent on us anyway as it wasn't in any budget.
Need to stop blaming investing as the big problem. That is tons of people not putting in and still taking out.

The lack of new social accommodation/council housing added to the major housing deregulation acts back in the 80's and exposing it to the full force of free market economics has been the biggest let-down for the general population imo and absolutely nothing to do with over-population but successive governments lack of will and foresight and unhealthy obsessions.

The younger can work as hard as they like but how are the majority going to be able to get a mortgage in their mid-twenties when flats are way out of reach financially and for independence there are no council places either?

Thatcher started the rot.

Agree with this. The taxpayer will get their money back eventually. The alternative was to let the banks go to the wall. This would impact hundreds of thousands of folks who who work for the banks and all the other folks in the support industries, dry cleaners, coffee shops sandwich shops bars, security, cleaners etc. What about the ordinary folk who had savings in the banks. In the 1908's a mortgage company went bust, hooray people thought until they found their mortgage still had to be paid. The new lenders refused to drop mortgage rates long after everyone else had. In short the little people would have suffered.

Letting the banks go to the wall might seem justice but the economy would have gone into meltdown and even a Labour government realised that.

Back to the OP I have a question I have not seen answered, feel free to inform me. The debate about immigration revolves around numbers and not about type. Is there any socioeconomic data about who comes and goes. If for example the majority of emigrants are well educated well skilled but they are replaced by folks who are not as educated or as skilled that must have an impact on the economy? What is the mix of men and women children, no children etc. Is it like for like or are there in balances between the in and the out?

Jesus wept, it's exactly the bloody same!
And yes, it did ''save thousands of jobs'' but was it really worth it at the expense of millions for 8yrs now.......that includes YOU?

Blinkered to say the least.

That has got to be the stupidest logic dealt out by the left of thinking.

How can a lack of housing be a problem but increased population not add to that problem?
All the time more people come here, we have to keep building more houses.

Duh!
