I do take it seriously when I see reports by multiple professionals on the same event.....who then don't go out and try to make money out of it....professionals who write reports that aren't designed to sensationalize about events that made no sense.

Them not having an agenda and someone's reputation is very important to how serious I regard it.

But overall...what I don't know, I don't know.

Still, Occam's razor suggests far more mundane possibilities, like one of them going insane or getting violently jealous and ripping the tent open to kill them all.

I get the impression that in 59 on a snowy mountain the highest levels of investigative research probably wasn't seen as that important in the USSR.

A knife is probably somewhere in the woods.

Well, the whole place was rampant with radiation that sent the Geiger counter off the scale, for a start. Actually investigations were actually prevented for the most part after the inconclusive official inquiry until the 70s by sensitive Soviet authorities, and has been ongoing since then to this day, with for example the infrasound theory surfacing only in the last few years. Obviously the inference is that they had something to hide, although that was the habitual default behaviour of Soviet official at the time.

Some of the victims were found with some pretty peculiar injuries, but none of them were to do with knives.

The tent was torn up from within.....I doubt that was done with harsh language.

Like I said, there is occam's razor and I don't have total confidence in the reports other than the basics because of the conditions and how much verification there would have been by other professionals in the USSR system.

So stuff like 'reported' radiation readings and 'injuries that couldn't have been caused' blah blah....lets just say I'm skeptical.

Spooky or what!

Part of the trouble is a lot of the reports are conflicting or unreliable or just hard to interpret or understand, like the business about the orange lights. Equally some of the theories fall for the syllogism that there were orange lights, therefore the orange lights must have something to do with it; they could be entirely incidental. Equally the fact that Soviet authorities shut the area off and stopped people investigating there doesn't prove that they were covering anything up, that was just what Soviet authorities did as a matter of course.

Of course it was also followed by a time when believing in UFOs and aliens and supernatural things and conspiracies was all the rage, when for instance the Tunguska explosion of 1908 was being explained as a crashed spacecraft or a secret experiment gone wrong (we now know pretty much for sure what it was).

There's still plenty about this affair that strikes me as extremely creepy though.

Yup, I agree, who knows.

Whatever happened it would have been terrible.

This is the problem with all this stuff. People have agendas. The ones's that want you to believe and the one's that don't.

The truth is out there HTG.

somewhere?
You just need to know where to look
Usually, the obvious is the answer as yet none of the worlds mysteries have been proven true from Bermuda triangle to yetis.

Some are easy to debunk like the yeti others take more time

I have prepared one of my own time capsules. I have placed some rather large samples of dynamite, gunpowder and nitroglycerin. My time capsule is set to go off in the year 3000. It will show them what we are really like.

Interesting and plausible. I can imagine the senior officers giving this hoax the green light as it would be good training for deceiving and confusing an enemy. Get the guards chasing lights in the sky whilst the lads break in and go for their target.

I doubt we will ever know for sure but it sounds more likely than the UFO explanation.

Typical of the pattern of smokescreen tactics used by the authorities.
How many official explanations have there been?

Not buying this I'm afraid.

It is a mistake to view the UFO phenomenon on a case by case basis. It is much easier to debunk separate occurrences. One has to look at the mass of credible evidence as a whole.
