Willo has kind of answered this (check back) but I refuse to accept that Hodgson has suddenly become a sh*t manager. Why do people automatically blame the manager when the players, certainly on this occasion, failed to stick to a game plan that was working beyond 80 minutes?

I will not blame Hodgson for this.

Well, Willo said that "Hodgson didn't want to upset the apple cart". Now unless you do the Pardew schoolboy error of making changes whilst defending a corner, the team should be able to accommodate like-for-like changes with players who know the system without any pericombobulations. Persevering with men who are too tired when the other lot are bringing on fresh men however is asking too much of the players.

Willo also said that we lost the game because Everton made changes and we did not.

So, what instructions were the players given, and of those, which were they not following?

You MUST take your chances at this level, if you don't then don't expect to win.

Try catching a fresh player after you have run around for 85mins.
Subs would have earnt a point so it is roys fault im afraid.

Problem is squad depth. Look at the bench.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

Up until they scored the Hodgson plan was working and he was happy to take the draw so probably didn't feel the need to possibly upset the apple cart by introducing someone from the bench.

It wasn’t working. It worked all first half where we controlled the game. But as the second half progressed it became more and more heavy Everton pressure. The only sensible conclusion is we were tiring and the manager did NOTHING to change it

Each game is different and it’s how you respond to the opposition and events during the game. You can’t run game management on a fact that the last time 3 subs were used we lost. That’s stupid.

Hodgson would have asked the players to give 110% and be disciplined in the tactical framework he set out.I suspect that to him they carried this out to the letter and he was happy to take the draw and of course he had to consider what he had on his bench.

At the end of the day, had we got a draw I don't think too many would have said we didn't deserve a share of the points.

Im thinking we played OK and with the penalty going in we get at least a point .
Yes the Everton subs messed with our concentration and the first was a poor goal to let in from our view .Making three subs at once left players it appeared confused to who their man was .

The obvious need for a forward was evident so lets hope Wickham can produce at least a holding role in the games coming up .

And we still need a striker

Agree the bench is low championship level. Apart from the keeper.

The bench wasn’t that bad. I’d have taken any of Wickham, Puncheon, Ayew or Kaikai over a knackered Jeff Schlupp with 80 mins in his legs.

Arguably I’d take most of those over a fresh Jeff Schlupp too though!

And can you honestly say that any of those subs would definitely be worse than Townsend was today? He was utter pony.

Awful game of football - Premier League, best in the World? Do me a favour.

The quality of some player is obvious, but most are just journeymen earning a ridiculous amount of money with the inability to even trap a football, let alone put through a killer pass.

Everton were just as poor - so many mistakes from both sides.
