For a time and its crazy the role that healthcare considerations play in peoples live. In some ways it improved under Obama, but it was still a botch job and is as confusing as ever.

Having family members on your health plan can be a real pain in certain states. For instance, a mother I know in Florida has kept her son on her plans into his late teens. He has MS and every time he's taken into hospital her co-pay would make your eyes water. In theory he's old enough now to get his own healthcare, and like most people he wants to pull his weight and so has a part time job at a local fast food place even though it's a struggle. He's been advised that this is a bad idea and makes him appear more able and will likely impact some of what he'd otherwise be entitled to.

So it's almost like you have to give up on life and humiliate yourself towards those whose support you need before they will even help you in the most basic of ways. We are indeed very lucky. The NHS is certainly imperfect, but the average person isn't plagued with what it means if they are admitted to hospital or lose their job in the same way that they are in the States. That's lobbying for you.
