Every word you have said makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Go take a look at the Panorama programme the other night and in particular the undertakers in East London who had to buy not hire refrigerated containers to house at one point was 400 bodies and most poignant was the bosses comments that many of those had gone far too early in some cases in their 30’s. Can you then imagine what your ridiculous herd theory would have created? We had it easy with our lockdown go speak to people in Spain and Italy who endured far tougher restrictions.
It is you that are in La la land as indeed is Mr Trump and if you want to see the results of your herd master plan keep your eyes on the death rate there.

I'll give you sense. 4 years minimum for an effective vaccine. Absent herd immunity that means restrictions till then.

8 weeks and people are already going cabin. By 4 years I guarantee you will see the opinion on this thread changing to f**k it I wanna go to the pub.

My mum is 83 with vascular issues and has just been given an order to self isolate to late June. I am not callous. But the directive needs to be more surgically focused with the emphasis on personal freedom and a vibrant economy and not keeping the R level at zero

0.9% fatality rate most of whom have debilitating conditions that do not make them major contributors to the economy.

Italy have probably hugely underestimated their covid deaths. I means really underestimated.

Ahem they are not alone.

Where do you get your 4 years from? Nobody really knows. Either whether there will be one or how long it will take. Most informed opinion seems to think it will be a year.

The hard lockdown was to give us a breathing space. Now it has the crisis will be managed to ensure the least harm is done. If it is 4 years before a vaccine is found then all bets are off and a reassessment will be needed. Until then we will manage it the way we are.

Personal freedoms are worthless unless they are matched by collective responsibility. We all have to forgo some of the former to achieve the latter.

What is a "vibrant economy"? One where some have ever more things and the non-productive can be dispensed with? Or one where we all have enough and people are protected from pandemics?

I think this presents a picture rather closer to the truth. It's the overall death rate year on year comparisons that will show the true outcomes of the pandemic:-

There has never been a vaccine for a coronavirus.

It's not as though we have only just started trying. Anyone who suggests a policy based upon an expectation or hope is suggesting a dangerous game.

We should proceed as though no vaccine will be successful and hope that medical science succeeds where it hasn't before.

We can definitely expect treatment to get more successful and for drugs to be developed......but we need to be realistic rather than hopeful.

You may have missed the stat that the overwhelming number of deaths would have died this year anyway.

Around 1500 die every day in the UK. It is part of the natural order.

17000 a year from flu every year. Dont see lockdown for that.

True but not necessarily these people.
Also in the US a study reckons that C19 is 20 times more deadly than flu.
17k a year from flu I get but twice as many or more probably have died in 8 weeks. It isnt over yet either like flu maybe by now. Flu carriers can be asymptomatic and infect others without knowing it but unlike C19 not at the same rate. This bug can be spread as quickly in both in scenarios.
The lockdown is to try and get us in a mindset of keeping clean and distancing. It is now up to us to stick to this basic advice. If we do that, the bug will decrease, if we feel we know better then it will be around for ages and most viruses get weaker but this one may get stronger.

It seems that the Tories are not the only doing a bad job on the virus.
