You could hear this kind of thing at countless mosques including one down the road from you. Some Muslim sects are quite tolerant. Most aren't - none accept homosexuality. Homosexuals are stoned in some muslim countries. And I mean in the biblical sense - not in the rasta sense.

Probably about three years ago I overheard a Bulgarian saying that homosexuals get physically attacked in his country.

I don’t blame them tbh and they are stating common sense that is actually proven science. It isn’t necessary for the non locals to be there. If I had a 2nd home down there I’d only go if I was taking a big supply of food and isolating with lots of space around me. But vehicles run out of fuel and other things mean human contact can happen so you’re not minimising contact at all.

I agree. Apparently police stopped a family on the M5 at the weekend, heading that way with their caravan! but the attitude of the woman in Boots is bizarre. I believe one of our fellow posters who lives down that way mentioned similar not long ago

Consider a scenario where a couple in a town own a second home on the beach. This couple would rather be at their second abode as they could exercise on the beach rather than walking around streets in a built-up area.

If this couple who have been staying at home and adhering to the advice, get into their car, drive to their second home, enter the home and self-isolate as before, is this deemed unacceptable ? Just a hypothetical scenario!

Pictures from around the world don't lie, but this article from a retired Professor of Pathology and NHS Consultant from the Spectator makes for interesting reading. I've copied a couple of paragraphs from towards the end of the article to give a taste of what it's about.

"The moral debate is not lives vs money. It is lives vs lives. It will take months, perhaps years, if ever, before we can assess the wider implications of what we are doing. The damage to children’s education, the excess suicides, the increase in mental health problems, the taking away of resources from other health problems that we were dealing with effectively. Those who need medical help now but won’t seek it, or might not be offered it. And what about the effects on food production and global commerce, that will have unquantifiable consequences for people of all ages, perhaps especially in developing economies?

Governments everywhere say they are responding to the science. The policies in the UK are not the government’s fault. They are trying to act responsibly based on the scientific advice given. But governments must remember that rushed science is almost always bad science. We have decided on policies of extraordinary magnitude without concrete evidence of excess harm already occurring, and without proper scrutiny of the science used to justify them."

But on the plus side, the time off is nice

You’ll pay for it though. Some more than others.

If my understanding is correct, China Airways fly between Gatwick and Taipei.

I am led to believe that as of 1 April, the North terminal will be closed and all flights will operate to/from the South terminal. In general terms, gargantuan problems for the airline industry and associated businesses.

Edited by Willo (30 Mar 2020 9.30am)

This is probably due to Easyjet grounding its whole fleet for the next 2 months( they are the main carrier from the North Terminal.

I have flights booked on 5th May with them going to Tenerife, there is NOTHING on their website, i have had NO contact from them. The annoying thing to my mind is the FCO is only ADVISING against travelling, which means the airlines dont have to give refunds on fares. Bearing in mind that 'Flight Only' deals are not ATOL protected.

Being bored at home and trawling the internet to pass the time, I came across this article about Coronavirus in Cornwall.(note it was written before the lockdown)
Now I can understand them not wanting it spread and not wanting their NHS to be stretched but some of the comments are staggering.
It seems in some "locals" eyes if you were not born and bred in Cornwall you don't belong and the only troublemakers are those from elsewhere.
Somewhat dispels WE view that everyone is welcome and such a nice place to live.

When this is over they will soon change their tune. Come to Cornwall for a great time the locals are really friendly.

Yeah, 'come to Cornwall', just as long as you spend and then feck off again.

The comments were a week ago when everyone was both spooking and in moral outrage. A lot has happened in a week

I’ll guess Necker, or Mustique.

Nice option if you have it.....I'd say it was advisable. I'm sure I wouldn't need to tell them not to leave anything too valuable in town though.
