I hesitated before posting as I know you think I have no idea about the dangers faced by immigration officers but surely the point of wearing a mask is to protect others from you, unless you are given the same type they are using in hospitals which apparently are difficult to breath through? So what is actually being requested?

Would it not be better to expect everyone passing through a border check point to be wearing a mask? Indeed should that not be a requirement as you enter the departure airport for check in and continue until you leave the arrivals hall? Is that already being done?

I read that temperature testing is being trialled somewhere, although how useful that would actually be remains an unknown, given the levels of asymptomatic infection of C19.

If the UK has as high a level of infection as about anywhere else is it not true that the risk faced by border control officers is no less, but also no greater, than a cashier in a supermarket? Or am I missing something? I realise they will be handling passports and other documents but presumably are now wearing disposable gloves.

If I am correct then the supermarket cashiers here are not wearing masks, or gloves, and have only recently been provided with perspex screens, which are not dissimilar to those found at an airport.

I take your point but

1) Onr purpose of checking a passport is to match up the passenger with the image in their passport. Can’t be done if they are wearing a mask:
2) They have disposable gloves but if you are suspicious that a document may not be genuine, they are in particularly helpful when you are trying to whether certain security features are present:
3) I did not say they were more/less at risk than others dealing with the public. Our supermarket cashiers are wearing masks and gloves, as are shelf stackers. We have a high elderly population maybe that is relevant.
4) At this stage no temperature checking is being done but to be fair Gatwick have no departing passengers.

Passport Control desks have always had a space without perspex, to enable you to talk and exchange documentation. At Gatwick this area has only been covered with perspex in the last couple of weeks (bizarrely, they waited until passenger numbers had fallen dramatically.
Another point not yet covered, don't be fooled that the required 14 day quarantine will be adhered to by all. Once a passenger leaves the airport it will be nigh on impossible to locate them, if they so wish.

Other countries and even the Isle of Man forced incoming travellers into designated hotels. If you leave them you get fined as one idiot on the IOM did.

Yep but the plan here is for passenger's to supply an address on arrival, where they are expected to stay indoors for 14 days (yeh right!). Inspectors could call unexpectedly to check you are complying (yeh right) who are these Inspectors? No chance of being able to check that they have given a correct address on arrival.
This smacks of bowing to the aviation industry imo

They may not give the correct address but next time their passport is checked for exit it could ping and then questions about false information will be asked. Missing their flight might be punishment enough. There will be repercussions and maybe this delay in implementing it is to protect from a 2nd wave and put these plans on checks in place.

1) If they ever leave

2)No exit checks carried out here and therefore no exit stamps

3) Only if we check they have given a false address.

I do wonder if, in a round about sort of way, they are trying to discourage people to travel, rather than just say we are closed

i think we are in for disappointing news with regards to the governments address later today...the f***wits thinking its ok to have street parties for VE day, or meeting in parks have shown people cant be trusted to be sensible in these times.

ive noticed over the past 10 days the the roads are busier, towns are busier, lines at the supermarket are bigger...its sad to see.

The aviation industry is up in arms about this proposal saying that it could well be the final nail in the coffin.

It will kill off overseas holidays if people need to take four weeks off work for a fortnight's holiday plus a further fortnight for isolation and also business trips too

Yup braunsten I'm with you. These cocks will be the first to moan about the nhs and payments for furlough not being enough but cannot stick to a simple rule. Dont f***ing go out. Maybe stupidity is a british thing. Friend is stuck in Poland and only 500 dead. Police do their job and you should worry lots if you piss them off. The death amount we have will definitely be and go higher because of these idiots ranting about their liberty etc.

my neighbours had a sing-song and drinks for 20 minutes on VE day by the War Memorial. Must have been 40 people there.
Then this dog-walking middle-aged woman i see in the woods, moans about how all the woodland walk car parks are closed. And how she is going to park on the road verge outside the car park with all the other retards.
The media are fueling this misinformation for retards, but then who feeds the media ? perchance the Government ?
