Stupid to promote not wearing face coverings.

We in Asia know a lot about this

The police are in a difficult position

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

You no doubt have high levels of hygiene and are surrounded by incredibly obedient people who do everything required, because if not, these pieces of cloth loosely hanging from your ears don’t achieve a single thing. If everyone wore FFP 97% masks temporarily I’d be up for it.

When I heard fluffy liberal Beverley Turner slam face coverings this morning on Vine on 5 (no science, 1984 stuff w/out quoting, public turning on each other) I realised the opposition to this is going to be huge. No wonder supermarkets have announced they won’t enforce it.

Who's 'they'? You would benefit from reading the body of research that's out there about masks. Make mistakes for yourself, not at other peoples expense.

In any case, our opinions are both irrelevant from the 26th July. You can complain about masks to your hearts content while you're wearing one.

It opened two days ago didn't it? As for immunity, we have no idea how long that lasts. Some recent research suggests it might be short lived, which would limit the effectiveness of herd immunity, but immunity is complicated and multifactorial so the jury is out. Hopefully it lasts years in which case we might see the back of it. The very best approach in the presence of several unknowns is to take sensible steps that are thought to keep the spread down and to avoid high numbers to begin with. Good hygiene, mask wearing in busy settings where it's viable - public transport, shops - and so on. That's how you keep businesses open and that's how you save lives of people deserving of our consideration in the process.

One thing that might help if you wear glasses; give them a wipe over with soap and clean them off which helps them stop fogging up when wearing a mask. They still steam up a bit but clear quickly.

There must have been over 100 studies and growing demonstrating that masks make a meaningful difference. Even SAGEs May advice here says they have their place in certain settings and can block a significant proportion of droplets. We're in a developing situation where we're learning more by the day, coming out of lockdown, and one decision impacts another. For instance SAGES recent advice:

"Sage stressed the importance of distancing to prevent the spread of the virus as recently as last week. In situations where people would be face-to-face and less than 2 metres apart, the scientists “strongly recommended” that protective measures be in place, including face coverings, and that efforts be made to minimise “duration of exposure”.

No single approach is a panacea, but combined sensible efforts can help us avoid being back to square one.

So you tell me that SAGE agree with you, and then when I take the time to detail why advice changes based on evidence and time and that SAGE now support public mask wearing in public, your reply is to post a video of Government officials from April saying that we shouldn't wear masks. Maybe we should go back to thinking that the world is flat while we're at it. Going back in time isn't quite how science works is it. This pandemic is months old, and scientific data and consensus builds with time. We're not being asked to wear a mask in shops for fun.

Clearly if people take the time to wear a quality mask or even wrap a scarf around their mouth or something, they are taking a positive step to protect themselves and others.

You've spend your time saying how you bought into it all, and now your eyes are open. No, you've just lurching this way and that and rolling your eyes at people taking reasonable steps to keep themselves and others safe. For the sake of a minor inconvenience, and the difference it could make to the health and peace of mind of others, especially the elderly, it's not much of a sacrifice to make.

Good hygiene, distancing where possible, masks in shops. It's basic stuff. I don't want another lockdown or for numbers to start moving in the wrong direction.

You realise water droplets don’t behave like this when exhaled?

Basically how I see it.. if face coverings make 1% of difference surely it’s still worth it?

In an era of bizarre opinions, anti-mask takes the biscuit.
