I believe maybe Cameron's deal could have been done.
Any deal now just can't be. This NI stuff - the deal the government are 'breaking the law' with is essentially to have a border at nobody other than the EUs behest. Really, Ireland are so in hock to the EU, they are the scapegoats. Whichever way the border/customs checks/virtual border/passport checks go in NI, one half of the population will be up in arms. The EU would rather have that to, once again, have the UK as the bad guys.
I have always gone along the lines of, if the EU want a border or checks let them do it. Perhaps they can send some Germans in to check everyone's papers?
It's not going to happen between Ireland/NI and Britain unless the EU force it. They may be able to force Ireland, who will find a way to weedle out of it - as they always do. But British borders are not going to happen, so basically the EU can posture all it likes. They will blame Britain, but if Britain say straight out right now that they won't do it no matter what, then the EU can do feck all about it. And it is them that will look bad.
In Ireland the media will go into overdrive about Britain's arrogance and intransigence. The man or woman on the street won't care though - as long as there is no border. Perhaps the EU could buy up some razor wire, border check points and guard huts? There's plenty laying unused around the place. But the demand is going to be rising for these products within a year or two.

You should get a van mate and load up all that razor wire, get it on e bay when the fuse is lit, just for private property, not the border stuff! I"m glad i got my Irish passport sorted, might fancy living there and spain/france/portugal one day, even in usa, got a feeling we have had the best years in the uk, (not that we knew), and the working people are going to have ever decreasing change in their pockets! Domonic raabs idea of getting rid of the 7.50 minimum wage so they can pay the citizens of the uk even less being a prime example- that was just a year ago!

Pacta sunt servanda [agreements must be kept] = the foundation of prosperous future relations.

A lot of damage has been done here.

I hear you ask? But seeing boris saying at his news brief that from monday, people in more than a six pack gathering will be breaking the law, i did have to smirk, a tad hypocritical bojo ,i thought!

Well, you'd be right to smirk.

Some people think the world turns on love.
Some people think the world turns on money.
I think it turns on hypocrisy.

Most political choices for votes come down to which of the two candidates you'd metaphorically least wish to punch in the teeth.

Honest politicians of any party rarely rise beyond local level....it does happen but I can't think of many who aren't nutters or useless.

I agree in many ways. However, two of my best friends moved back from London recently. I warned them that there's no going to the doctor's, no going to the dentist, no point in being ill at all here, or wanting even the smallest procedure.
It's 55 euro per visit to the doctor plus whatever you need full price. It's 70 euro for the dentist plus a massively inflated whatever you need. Needless to say, my teeth are falling out! I had a infection in my bladder, I had to go private for diagnosis. That was 55 for the referral from the GP, 200 for the private diagnosis, and 150 for the treatment. Of course, I had waited until in dire pain, as that is nearly a week's wages - although I earn 900 a week. I take home 500. That's the best part, high taxes, no services, low wages in general, I'm actually well paid, the best in my family here!
Anyway my friends and two kids moved back to be 'home' , lasted three months, although they had good jobs, they couldn't believe the lack of services or meaningful infrastructure, could barely afford a house, could barely afford childcare and just thought it was basically backwards. However, they were dead set on Dublin, which makes Croydon look like Paris.
As I said before, move from London but go to the country in Ireland, it's cheap in the country and everyone's nosy but it's nice, crime free and relaxed. Just don't expect British style services, they don't exist. And don't expect to earn much - you won't. If you do the tax is mental: much more than what the English would accept at all, full stop. Bearing in mind that for that tax, you get nothing at all.
I live West Coast, you would think it was cheap. However, my last two visits to London, I thought London was dirt cheap. Try Leitrim, Longford - somewhere not trendy yet. I certainly would move but do it with real spectacles, not the rose tinted ones. And I need not tell you, don't listen to the silly nostalgia, I've lived all over the world and plenty of places I would have rather stayed than here.
There's a reason everyone leaves - even if that becomes hidden in the nostalgia in the Guinness. It is more an older person's country here, as long as you're healthy, pensions are good and there are discounts. Plus life is quieter and safer (in general).
I have to sort my Irish passport, just been waiting for the backlog of Brexit to clear up! I want the choice of travelling or moving too - even though I largely agree with Brexit, it doesn't actually suit my personal situation at all.

I used to put the manager's name in front of Red and Blue but got fed up with changing it. If someone cool becomes our manager then maybe..

That applied to Brexit and the referendum too, no doubt. Plus, no border was promised too. But I guess if we need a border so that we don't break 'international law' then we'd best do it? A return to the troubles, just a small side effect - as long as it doesn't effect the euro. It reminds me of that old stick your head in the oven saying. I didn't do that either.

Yes, have to agree, if you speak up you get banished. I was on a building site in the city about 30 years ago, went up staircase to floor 5 and it was total darkness, no lights at all, rubble all over the floor, and two open lift shafts with no guards, i nearly went down one. So, i go to the head honchos office, told him about my experience-politely i have to say- and just said someone will be killed if its not rectified soon. Within half hour my foreman came up to me and told me i had been fired- (head honco )- nothing he could do. I thought thats all the gratitude i get for saving someones life and the company a big pay out! I did get a little bit of revenge getting the hse involved and the site shut down for a day, but speak up- and fcuk off!

Thanks, i must admit i do wear the rose tinted kind when thinking of living there! I!m just picturing drinking heaps, listening to dolores o riorden in paris 99 and looking out at the view of the lake and mountains in the distance! The doctor thing is scary as you get older i guess, but the dentist not so different to here, i"m the same as you in that regard, haven"t been for 25 years ever since he said i could "maybe" do with a filling as i"m already here(no pun intended, although i was thinking the same about his assistant), i said "maybe"?, no thanks. i will wait till it needs filling- that was 25 years ago and it hasn"t even tweaked !

There's only so much mountains, lakes and drink you can take. Although I haven't quite reached my limit yet. Particularly with me being 'fond of a drink'

With respect. This is an infantile comparison.

One is a negotiating tactic to get what is best for the British Isles and stop Europe dictating to us and the other is to save lives.
If those on the left just stopped acting like naive TV brainwashed teenagers occasionally, they might actually join the real world.

And if you stopped acting like a naive and brainwashed senior citizen you might also join the real world.

What the average person in East LA (Lower Addiscombe) will be seeing is it's one rule for the powerful and another for the average. Just not a good look, as has been said.

You may not know that as I think you have fallen out of love with East LA these days.

I still go after work if I get the chance, that's becoming a bigger and bigger if these days. Still restrictions here, I think they lift this weekend. I'm thinking I will steer clear, unless someone twists my arm.
