Not out of context or disingenuous at all. Did you actually see or hear the BBC interview or are you just responding to the quotes people have put on here?

He was clearly talking about his approach to the game and his satisfaction with the point bearing in mind Fulham had been playing well, we had a number of players out injured and because he ‘knew’ we were going to be under pressure for large parts of the game...

“Nil Nil I think was the best we were going to be able to get today...and we got it”.

I was being every bit sincere in my post and I don’t think his comments could’ve been any clearer. Below is the link of the full interview.

Apologies Phil's B. I hadn't seen the BBC interview. My comments were based on the interview Hodgson gave on the Palace website in which the context was as I described it. Having now seen the BBC one I take back my accusation of disingenuity.

I know this might seem an odd suggestion given the position they're in, but I actually still think Chris Wilder could do a good job if he left Sheffield Utd this season. They have a weak squad and have been beset by injuries, but tactically he does seem to have some interesting ideas and a willingness to make adjustments mid-game (often switching between 3-5-2 and 4-4-2). I think Warnock suggested him when he left us last time round. He is a life long Sheffield Utd fan though, so it is perhaps unlikely that he will quit.

Don’t think it odd at all. Chris , for me would be the most realistic candidate , if only limIted changes can be made to the make up of the squad. This alone would give him a better chance than the squad he has at Sheffield.
He is an absolutely solid football man, able to adapt a limited squad , which is an absolute requirement for Palace.
Eight years of slow progress, some say none. Would suggest progress for Palace, will be slow, and we need a man that can over see slow progress. He certainly likes his teams to get at the opposition, so that might please the folk who want a bit more aggression in other peoples penalty areas. The proviso is even he would need some new faces to work with.

You didn’t say you had a discussion you said you overheard, which implies listening in over a distance. So you either stopped your walk to listen to their conversation (a bit weird), or you knew them in which case the context of your post is all wrong.

Yes, agreed, I wouldn’t have a problem with Wilder. I think he has gone as far as he can with Sheffield.

To clarify, I was replying to Gary St. Andrew who asked me who would be my choice. Nagelsmann is optimistic I agree but in no way do I see the Gerrard appointment being out of the question. I didn’t mention the other two. Benitez is well within our reach but I would prefer Thomas Frank or Scott Parker to Rafa.

Understood, and I certainly wasn't calling you (or anyone else) out individually, just expressing my great surprise that what seems to be a fair few posters on here think the club can 'aim high' regarding the next manager and actually achieve anything other than looking foolish, wasting time, and making it clear to the world that whoever we do end up with was not our first choice.

This has nothing to do with 'lacking ambition', whatever that means when applied to a supporter. As tempting as the Premier League and London are, any serious manager who has either been used to, or has already earned the right to have a crack at, Champions League football will not come to Palace. We are a world away from somewhere like Everton, who have done very well to attract Ancelotti, but on the basis that they have the money and will to have a crack at the top four.

We might be able to attract someone who can do well enough for us to get a chance at a club who could compete for a top four place - in other words, someone who is a clear level beneath the likes of Tuchel, Pochettino, Nagelsmann, and Gerard (who has not only just won the league in style, but also earned a run at the Champions League).

I would be hugely concerned if Benitez came. He is wholly unsuited to life outside of the elite, demands money all the time, throws his toys out publicly when his club don't spend lavishly, and played very negative football with a Newcastle squad I wouldn't say is any worse than ours.

For me it all boils down to the same conclusion as it has for a long time: Unless we get another pragmatist (Dyche?) then whoever we get will be a gamble, partly because the squad might not be capable of playing any way other than very defensively, partly because even if they are we might not get enough points to stay up playing anything other than defensively, but also because whoever comes in will, by nature of our status and who we can attract, be of the level where the big clubs aren't interested in them (yet). Whoever we can get will have significant question marks over them - that's why we can get them.

No worries, clearly a case of crossed wires. I hadn’t seen the Palace website interview otherwise I might have realised what had happened with our posts and differing interpretation. Thank you for clearing that up as I was genuinely a bit puzzled by it all.

It’s worth a look at the final questions at today’s press conference (available on Palace TV).
It is quite clear that Roy does not know what the future holds for him or the players out of contract, assuming he is telling the truth in his answers.
If he was involved in the planning for next season you would think as a minimum that he would at least be consulted as to whom he would like to see be retained.
It would be perverse to release players he saw as key to his plans if it was intended to retain him as manager.
There is a change of emphasis from earlier in his tenure where he stressed the alignment in approach on players between him, Parish and Freedman.
He’s a reasonably straightforward guy not given to Mourinho type posturing so I don’t believe he is constructing some sort of spider’s web.
It’s just speculation, but I get the feeling he will not be manager next season.

I agree completely. There has been a change in tone, and Hodgson wouldn't bother maintaining some ongoing pretence. He plainly hasn't a clue what the future holds for him or for the players. Given we are now in March the fact he hasn't been offered a deal, or even got any talks lined up, and the fact he hasn't been asked to contribute to decisions on player retention signposts very clearly that Parish is, at the very least, uncommitted to Hodgson at this point and has left himself the opportunity to make changes without having misled Hodgson along the way.

If I had to guess I'd say that retaining Roy is one of a few options Parish is weighing up, each of which is affected by variables beyond his control and /or unresolvable at present (if we stay up, how soon we are safe, whether he can get other managers out of the club's they are in, what player signings we can achieve and who needs to be retained as a result).

The other thing in relation to this is if Roy doesn't know about contracts etc as he states, then it doesn't sound like he's planning for next season at all. Surely, if was hugely interested in staying, he would be asking questions himself? Just conjecture really, but there's something not quite right about having so many out of contract and the manager knows nothing. I guess it could just be that he didn't want to give any information out?
The whole thing sounds very short term.
