I do try to be as constructive, insightful and informative as I can but alas have to bow down to those who really do add a great deal of value to HOL.

My comment wasn't aimed at you as I certainly don't think that you are clueless even though I wish you'd cut down on the irrelevant trivia

Here's a question. Do you reckon pundits read this thread?

In our recent games, different TV talking heads have made reference to supporter disquiet regarding our style of play, translating into questions to Roy. They could have got that from the banner of course, but there has also been some slightly deeper comments on budget, spending, reasonable expectations, a clubs place in the scheme of things, and also the possible effect of having so many players out of contract.

I wonder if they are getting all that from here? If not, then where?

Personally I think this thread has gone from predominantly pointless, sometimes rude and generally circular arguments to a pretty good place to understand the subtleties and nuance (and still to sometimes be rude to each other).

Ten minutes on this thread and any neutral would get a good idea of the juggling act involving how hard it can be to watch us, whether results justify performances, the relative investment on Roy's watch, the debate over how good our squad actually is, what kind of football a club our size can actually play in this league, whether a club can reasonably expect to develop simply through spending time in the top flight, and even what the point is of going up if all you can do after is stay up, and staying up is not enjoyable.

There are no shortage of pundits who struggle to form coherent sentences, and so I doubt they are carrying these pretty big issues around in their heads, particularly in relation to Crystal Palace. I wonder therefore if someone (probably not the pundits themselves) is dipping in here to take the temperature?

I assumed that was from the HF banner outside the training ground. That probably got a bit more attention than anything said on here.

Only my assumption however.

Here's to you the famous red and blue.....

Iím sure pundits do dip into fans forums to give themselves a feel of what goes on at clubs. They will have to drop the ď Palace always fall to defeat when Wilfred Zaha isnít on the pitchĒ now.

One Sky pundit dropped a clanger a while ago when he said ď the last time Palace scored 4 goals at home was a good few seasons backĒ He was literally correct within seconds by his opposite as we had just beaten Leeds 4-1.

You don't think I am "Clueless".Many would disagree with your opinion!

Apropos "Irrelevant trivia", I can only re-iterate that I do try to be constructive and informative and perhaps my cerebral capacity is insufficient on occasions to distinguish between relevant and irrelevant.

Returning to "Roy Out" I believe, given his track-record at our club in terms of ensuring survival, there will be a degree of perturbance come the day it is announced that the "Curtain has come down/will be coming down" on his time at the club.

given some of the articles that have started popping up in the media, making a case for Roy in/out, I'd say that some sports journalists must be reading fan forums to get a gist of the mood as they nail a lot of the arguments that are made on here from either side.

I would imagine that competition for places in the pundits / commentators chairs increases every year & the pressure to earn their corn along with it - to come up with lots of informed or even semi informed information to help them seem knowledgeable & topical - so for sure having a look at what the supporters are saying makes lots of sense.

Such is the lazy state of modern journalism, there appears to be very few these days who are capable of generating their own ideas and you will either see a re-hash of someone elseís piece, quotations from Twitter or re-posting of fans comments.

This thread started on 6 October 2020 so is celebrating it's 6 month anniversary.
Out of interest has anybody changed their mind on their initial stance on Hodgson i.e from Roy In to Roy Out or vice versa?
Itís not so much a question as to whether a replacement could/ would be available or the suitability of such a candidate.
Itís just a question of whether your views on his management has changed over 6 months and why.
I suspect the vast majority will stick to their original views as supporters are wont to do.

Iíve always hated Royís tactics since before he was Palace manager so I have never really wanted him at the club, however I do now have a better understanding of why he does what he does.

I know that our football has been pretty boring so time seems to drag but it really is just 2 days short of 5 months since 6th October 2020

Personally my view on Hodgsons management hasn't changed drastically over the last six months, although I think this period has illustrated the arguments better than any before: The football has been at its worst whilst the points total relative to games played, pounds spent and quality of player available seems perhaps to be at or near its best.

I was never in the 'Roy In' camp as such (does such a thing exist?), I just felt that many of the 'Roy Out' posts contained flawed, inaccurate or unfair reasoning that I wanted to politely challenge. Mostly politely, anyway.

This thread lurched into pointless s***tiness at one stage, but was brought back round again and became quite a useful discussion. It seems like a fair few people have at least examined more closely some of the mitigating factors and wider context which I and others felt they were ignorant of, and have if nothing else had to accept the respect many of us (myself included) retain for Hodgson.

In turn I can only respect that there are many who, all mitigating factors accepted and understood, still want him gone quite regardless of who might replace him. That argument is clear and reasonable in my view, even if I remain torn between my heart wanting a major change and my head identifying major risks.

Roy's doing a fantastic job, he gets results despite all the injuries, and only having peanuts to spend.
He adapts his tactics to the ability of the players available.
He gets so much unfair criticism from some who demand more attack minded, flamboyant football.
But we just don't have the players to play that way,and if we tried the gung ho style that some call for, we'd surely end up relegated.
