It's political expediency. Labour changed their stance on Europe thinking it was a vote catcher. I don't share your view of MPs principles, there will obviously be some exceptions but usually they'll say what they think voters want to hear.

So you think you can see inside their minds and what they say is just to catch votes? That this from Wiki is incorrect?

"The Labour Party has been broadly Pro European in recent years, with a vast proportion of the Parliamentary Labour Party advocates of membership of the EU and of the campaign."

I know many people here are ultra cynical about politicians, but I thought you were better than that.

That they often say what they have been told what to say by their parties, who are pandering to popular opinions, is what I believe needs to be changed. We need to free our MPs of the fear of speaking their minds, telling the truth and voting in ways they don't actually agree with. MP's need to be prepared to make decisions they know will be unpopular but which they also know is in our best interests. We will then, hopefully, regain trust and respect.

Nearly all just popularists now, devoid of any new ideas, skimming social media for trends, unable to implement anything if they are in power due to lack of intellect, greed and incompetency. Not just in the UK either. All will say whatever suits them at the time and vehemently deny saying anything when held to account - which is rare anyway.

Can you just stop giving actual facts about where you live; now then ! It doesn’t suit certain narratives and doesn’t help posters having guesses about it

In Ireland prices are 50% higher than the EU average. I think we're the highest but sometimes Finland beats us. Lucky we give loads of American companies a tax Haven whilst we also have some of the highest taxes. Our national broadcaster has a series - cheap European homes - wonder why that is?

No one disputes that prices are also rising in the EU. What is disputed is the implied suggestion that they are worse than in the UK, which simply isn't true.

The rate of inflation is broadly similar, with some EU countries (especially in the East) having higher levels than us, and others (in the West), lower.

Move to the 6 counties in the north. Homes are much cheaper there!

I'd love to move but work and kids in school. One elderly parent left with dementia to look after. Plus, sectarianism making a big comeback in the north. I live in a nice place but traffic, prices and weather do ruin it a bit. I'm in one of Europe's most sought after places - but frankly you'd want to be rich to come here.

Another case where everything will be fine, mutatis mutandis, if we just keep believing. If it were possible to remove ideology and identitarianism from the equation it would be better but there are no signs of that happening.
Politicians say what they think will make them popular, an example is their current unwillingness to define a woman, the fact they often do something different is more evidence of their duplicity. Q

It requires more than belief. It requires enough desire to stir people into action, and that has to come from us. It happened with UKIP and the SNP, and I think a similar mass movement in favour of rejoining the EU, in some way, is already beginning to coagulate. How long that, or the political realignment and PR that I expect, will take is another question, but I think they will eventually happen.

Your description of the way politicians are responding to the transgender issue seems a little odd. Surely it would make them popular to denounce the idea. Defending transgender, and other LGBT, issues is not popular. That politicians do it therefore is showing leadership over something, which is a welcome change.

All it is showing is how out of touch they are with the overwhelming majority of their electorate. Showing leadership would be in addressing the important issues such as inflation and the economy in general, the housing crisis and effective policing to reduce crime - instead of alphabet-soup nonsense.

Noticed that the person who champions the EU and UK rejoining the EU hasnt/cant answer the question.....how will rejoining lower the prices in the UK?

Costs have risen everywhere but ultimately the strength of the EU and the efficiency of the single market would benefit us. If you don't live here then you won't have witnessed the spiraling prices we are seeing.

Actually I have witnessed spiralling prices here in the EU......everything has gone up in price MASSIVELY , its not just a UK thing,,,,so once again How will rejoining change that??
