Compared with the old gangsters Noades and Waite he is a paragon of fair dealing. Exactly this. Don't let this detract from the "Parish is the devil in disguise" agenda that some fans seem to have on little basis at all, every single year... (yes the same retort comes year in year out - we are going down, he is a terrible owner etc etc....and yet here we are... still in the premier league, with a new academy of the highest quality, a good chance of surviving this season, slow movement but movement none the less on the stadium rebuild...) Parish is the face of cpfc but he has to go through the shareholders for spending vast sums of which palace do not have BUT the americans have. The AWB money....as said many times by people who bother to read articles on the actual goings on or listening to what Parish has already said... was to pay off a £30 mill loan and he had the rest to spend on transfer. He has said there is money to spend but on the right deals. Not just Parish but Simon Jordan (as he has stated on talksport) and many other owners believe the January window is a window of inflated prices of players and cast offs for the desperate. Seeing as we are not at the desperation of the 4 at the bottom, It would seem stupid for a club of our small stature to spend above our means to have players which may not cut it and hence why the prudent loan deal of Mateta has been arranged. Unless he has a gun to their head, he cannot force them to spend any money. It's s*** football this season but you cannot just consistently blame that on SP without a logical argument with an actual basis as to why you believe it. The above is literally what has been regurgitated through various posts a dozen or so times. Here are some quick Transfer stats on money spent this season via Soccerbase for the bottom 10 (from Sept 2020) (I've added a + next to those with some undisclosed fees) Edited by CPFCwetrust (09 Feb 2021 6.18pm) Edited by CPFCwetrust (09 Feb 2021 6.29pm) Edited by CPFCwetrust (09 Feb 2021 6.30pm)

Maybe I was unfair to Wait but popular gossip at the time suggested a less than savoury reputation. Maybe it was because he was a builder and property developer at a time when a lot of skullduggery went on in those categories. The fact that he sold out to Bloye who disposed of assets to Sainsbury with all the problems that is now causing may have had something to do with it. Originally posted by OldFella
You need to give your head a serious wobble describing "Waite" (I'm assuming you mean Arthur Wait) as a "gangster". The man gave Palace everything he possibly could, and I am pretty confident others would see that the same way.

Maybe gangster is not the right word but he managed to drop Palace right in it by selling off the team as a separate entity to the ground, lining his pockets in doing so. He got a cut out of practically everything that moved even after he had supposedly left the Club. From other things I have heard about golf clubs that he took over do not reflect well on him. I remember having an end of season beer in the Victory and met (I believe) Steve P who was not going to the game as SJ was still in charge. There were also stories that he was involved in making SJ bankrupt after SJ bought the ground back. I still blame Noades more for selling out to Goldberg which was the big reason for his ownership going bust and SJ too. Selling out to the septics was a bad idea but looked the right thing to do at the time. All in all IF SJ and Goldberg were bad for the club then so is SP.
Enjoying getting up later and not having someone who knows better than me (apart from the missus of course). |

They all have big egos, SJ and MG got affected by the adulation and attention they got from being owners. SP is a lot cooler and an asute businessman.

I cannot believe the nonsense on here about Steve, probably the best chairman we have ever had,

Agree completely - have never read such nonsense. One thing I am sure of - Parish wouldn't take a blind bit of notice of any of it.
