Oh I have not visited that thread. From what I understand, the act TR committed was clear and obvious criminal contempt. As discussed in this thread on the Paterson affair, the law is known; yet he did it anyway. Flagrantly. No ignorance; no argument.

The sentence, I suspect, was to set example to discourage others. The judiciary do not like others interfering with their process especially when the perpetrator amplifies his act to give it higher public profile. That is the area where there is ample room for debate, in my view, and I can see there have been a large number of folk posting on that thread what are likely to be very firmly held views.

However, judicial partiality? In whose favour, or against which groups? It was the act PLUS the cock-a-snook attitude to judicial process that caused the tariff, not his politics. If you have a person who punches someone in the face compared to another who punches an MP in the face and then posts it on social media to make a political point, you can guarantee the latter will earn a much heavier sentence.

I agree.

I'm not a fan of judicial punishment for saying the wrong words, it's nuts. At the same time, it is hard to have sympathy for someone who appears to be completely obnoxious. I won't lose any sleep for this guy, but a jail sentence is disproportionate relative to other crimes.

Was this his 1st offence? What is his criminal history? Is he currently on remand/parol/suspended for another offence? Did he show remorse? How bad was the post?

BTW, lock-up for a 1st offence for a person of good character would be outrageous regardless of the post. More example setting.

While I think your anti Labour posts on here are odd, there is some truth in this post. Then again, we would not be the first aging generation who begin to feel a bit lost and out of time.

That said, the kids are very different from us. When my daughter is with her school mates it resembles a UN meeting. When she talks about her mates, I hear their names mentioned at home and try to prize out their ethnicity, just out of curiosity. Her look is not one of judgment but incomprehension. It isn't that she doesn't care or is right-on. She simply doesn't know. They are just other kids.

And this is not home indoctrination. No woke learning in this household! It just... is. They are growing into this culture as we grew into ours.

Not many generations before yours we were getting rich on slavery, hanging 12 year old boys for pick-pocketing and visiting underage prostitutes using a legal, openly published guide book. While not universally accepted, they were features of the prevailing social mores.

I know it's hard and my wife looks at me like I am a dinosaur every time some woke crud is mentioned on the media and I explode. But times change.

You don't seem to realize that 'growing into the culture' and being unknowingly conditioned amounts to the same thing.

There was a time when the move towards tolerance, equality and justice was a fine and worthy cause, but it is being perverted into something sinister and one that will serve no one except the elite.

Honestly you could just read the thread. I have respect that you are a genuine voice on the left and that it would be a fair minded discussion but I'm just tired of going over it again in any real depth.

Maybe I'm just getting old.

For me, the bottom line is whether it is in the public interest to jail people for saying nasty words.
More to the point. Is it reasonable to separate race related abuse from any other kind?
For me it is just another example of the insanity that is engulfing this nation.

This thread is about the Tories, how they operate at senior levels as individuals and how they close ranks if your face fits

It isn't yet another opportunity to rant about immigrants.

Please use other threads, of which you have very many, to discuss your views on such points. Your hatred of 'other' is well known, you add nothing by constant repetition.

When discussing the misdeeds of MPs, it is entirely appropriate in the adversarial world of party politics to compare various examples.
I did not make any reference to race whatsoever other than to comment on what had been said by others.

You need to read threads properly. I know you want to bash the Tories but some of us have another view.

Hatred? What a ridiculous statement.

Ah, you didn't comment on race. My mistake, I thought the insanity of which you spoke was losing the right to be 'critical' of people from another race.

No matter. Please comment on the Tory sleaze issue, the other examples you seem to believe comparable clearly are not and are simple diversions.

Be careful, your face might not fit very soon. And as for your children. Good luck to them

And you have to convince yourself that others that do manage to fit in fine and get along in the modern world are ‘conditioned’ because they couldn’t possibly be independent, free thinking and thriving in the real world.

What are you talking about?

'Tory sleaze' is just a stupid Leftist slogan and when it is a subject on here, I will challenge it to demonstrate that sleaze is universal in politics and always has been. You might not like that because you like to be blinkered, as with may other subjects.

Fit in?

Interesting phrase. Sort of Orwellian in its passive aggressive suggestion.

Lets be honest, ultimately its all our fault because we vote for the w***ers.

All people are ultimately arguing over is what particular shade of s*** they most enjoy covering themselves with.
