Yes Aaron Wan-Bissaka played against Tottenham because of injuries most young players will get their opportunities either through injury or in meaningless end of season games. Here is the important part though they need to be in the right position and developed enough to take that opportunity
Both AWB and Tyrick were in the right position both had played on pre-season tours and trained with the first team both been unused subs. In the case of AWB a loan move was turned down specifically because Hodgson wanted him for the first team.
If Ward or Kelly hadn’t of been injured AWB doesn’t play but that would have delayed his debut not stopped it altogether that is the crucial point.
Of the players you mentioned originally Rak-Sakyi fits that development pattern best if we get an injury crisis, we might seem him get some matches, more likely if we are safe towards the end of the season he will come on as late sub.
I agree with what Doombear has said about the Papa John’s the U23s didn’t exactly excel, Jake O’Brien Jay-Rich-Baghalou aren’t the same stage of their development as Rak-Sakyi if we can get some decent loans for them that might be the best option. Nya Kriby unfortunately looks like he is running out of time.

You don't know that you are just surmising that, i think Luck plays a massive part in it, 18 to 23 is the development period and if that is delayed they dont progress, Kelly and Jairo should not be on the bench 2/3 U23 players should be developing know by being in the matchday squad and getting 15/20 mins here and there

The sooner we get to 38 points, the sooner they get their chance.

They WERE outstanding in the under 23’s, that’s the point, if they were no good, despite injuries they still wouldn’t have been thrown in at the deep end, you know how it works, someone in the 1st team squad would’ve been played out of position.

From what I read AWB was close to joining Coventry in the January window ( where Richard Shaw has connections from his playing career ) and it was injuries that got him training with the first team. Palace evidently got lucky.

I hope Palace take a more pro active approach - using FA/league cup games to give a few players a chance

And Ayew was in that provisional squad as one of the forwards.

Of course I surmising it, but it is by looking at what is available and coming to a conclusion based on what seems most likely
Most likely he would have followed the same route as Tyrick, when we got injuries around the Brighton game , Reidwald played left back and Tyrick was sub. 6 months later after the covid break and by the time we were safe Tyrick was the alternative to PVA and took his opportunity.

15-20 minutes will only benefit them and the team if they are close to the required level, the results in Papa John doesn’t exactly show that they are at the right level. That is not just for us most U23s were pretty poor historically in that tournament. It will be interesting to see what would happen if a half decent League 1 or championship team come in for a loan for Rak-Sakyi.
Again surmising but with the investment in the academy and with so many good players from South London there is a huge willingness for the Academy to get players into the first team as a statement of intent and attract others. We might attract the next Sancho, Smith-Rowe, Guehi or Gallagher to our youths if we can show you have a path to the first team.
If an opportunity present itself to get some of them debuts by the end of season I’d assume Parish would be making that point to Vieira. If I was Vieira I’d be making the point if they are good enough they will get the opportunities

He had wanted a loan, but Hodgson put a block on it specifically because he wanted AWB to train with the first team [Link] It is mentioned on here along with how highly regarded he was at the time.
Injuries got AWB his opportunity but he was at the right stage of his development, both Ward and Kelly played and were injured between deadline day and AWB's debut.
Kelly played 45 minutes and got injured against Newcastle on Feb 4th after transfer deadline day Ward played a full match against Everton on the 10th. The Spurs match was on the 24th.
The loans were turned while Ward and Kelly were available as far as I can remember or make out from match reports at the time

Isnt it obvious to everyone yet, that they do not want to mix the senior and u23 squads because of covid cases.....otherwise there surely would be a couple on the bench....

We had an academy player on the bench for the Spurs match, Ollie Webber the U23's GK.

What is the obsession to play an academy player, yeah its all great when a player does come through but the manager and coaches see them daily, I'm sure they'll know if they're good enough or not. There's no academy players breaking into the first team because they clearly ain't good enough.

Yet again surmising, you don't know until you try. they are 6th in the league so they must be pretty decent
