Some good points made very well in this thread. It reminded me of my mechanical engineering training in the 1980's, where basic concepts were introduced. "Everything is a compromise. There can be no absolute solution that satisfies all criteria" True, as much for engineering, as politics.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

Just watched John Simpson on BBC2 talking to a number of the BBC correspondents. A number of interesting ideas that I hadn't heard before. Both regard who could broker a settlement. First was China, who have begun to put some distance between themselves and Putin. They have the muscle to influence him. Second is Finland who have been under Russian occupation in the past and ceded territory in a settlement. Get Mrs Merkel back in for a last hurrah.

You can question the official narrative on the war, & not support Putin. I don't like NATO, the EU or Russia. Only people who deserve sympathy are ordinary Ukrainians.

Like any conflict or war it very much seems to be orchestrated by those in suits, drinking and eating posh nosh and booze, staring at a chessboard whilst your salt of the earth working peoples are forced to leave their homes, bombed and murdered either fighting against and even for the whims of a very small minority.

I mean expanding pensions, daycare centres and free national healthcare in the early thirties when he took over wasn't socialist for its time in any shape or fashion. As for Putin, he's essentially a KGB man....calling him a fascist is just weird. He's an authoritarian....an Autocrat, he's also jailed nationalists so, none of this fits well.

Complete freedom in a democracy is a myth. As soon as people decide to act together in their mutual interests we have laws that restrict freedoms. That applies to speech just as much as it does to anything else. Especially at the time of war we need to act responsibly and show self-restraint. Some aren't doing that and are making statements that can be used by an enemy. You can think whatever you like, and express it in private, in your own space, but in spaces occupied by others in a democracy you are bound by laws.
