Quite. When you realise that some of the richest people alive at that time had the opportunity to get on a life-boat and declined to do makes you wonder who amongst our current 'elites' would do similar.

The West has zero nobility anymore. In every sense of the word

How true. I still see people wearing surgical style masks, and avoiding others not wearing them, even though they have no benefit whatsoever. They still believe the lie. I said right from the beginning that they were of no use in a viral situation. I even questioned the use of ffp2/n95 mask efficiency for a virus too, but was shouted down by the lockdown advocates. There are reports out now, but as usual, there will be silence from the COVID restrictions aggressors.

Edit: I found an advocate of mask wearing admitting he was wrong on YT [Link]

If wearing a mask is a "lie" why then does my wife, who is a nurse in our local hospital, wear one at all times when facing patients? Is she wasting her time, and our money? Or is she protecting herself, or her patient, from the possibility of a cough or a sneeze overloading the environment close to her? She knows it isn't perfect, but she and her colleagues all wear them without complaint, and they are all trained medical professionals. Are they fools? What do you know better, and what qualifications do you have that have enabled that knowledge?

If my wife, and those she is in contact with derive benefit, why won't others when in contact with other people? She isn't from a unique species.

Let's hope so. We would all be much better off if such views remained as unacceptable as they deserve to be. So long as they are just on videos, which can be ignored, and only viewed by the like-minded, little harm is done.

I just love the way that people who think the way you do believe that the kind of ridiculous insults you use to describe the "establishment" impresses anyone outside the group you are part of. It's just each of you confirming your biases.

By the way I believe it's much better to be awake, and aware of the need for change to address long-standing unfairness and prejudices, than asleep and unaware, or just ignorant and uncaring. I am proud that our shared humanity today means we are no longer thinking in the small-minded, selfish way which we used to.

Spoken like a true supporter of the undemocratic EU, supporter of secrecy in our parliament, supporter of the arrest of people silently praying, supporter of businesses being forced to carry political slogans on their products, supporter of the persecution of anyone with views you disagree with – a true Woke Freedom Fighter. Do you send lists of ‘enemies of the people’ to the HOL moderators to get them cancelled? What will you guys do when you run out of targets – turn on yourselves of course.

More “tone deaf” commentary from you WE - supporting the crushing lockdowns whilst drawing your pension and income from your buy to let property portfolio whilst others lost everything.

My daughter is a teacher and the impact from nearly 2 years of lost face to face lessons is still being felt today. You also supported mask wearing for children in schools despite the serious impact this had on the education of tens of thousands of children with hearing difficulties who rely on lip reading.

That you still support your fanatical lockdown views now when there is so much evidence to counter the effectiveness of this “policy” is staggering but not surprising.

Even during the CV times it was proven in the US where some states adopted stringent lockdowns and others no lockdowns that lockdowns did not work.

What I support is doing things that the consensus of expert opinion suggests is the best at the time. Then holding a thorough, objective investigation afterwards to see what lessons can be learned in preparation for similar events.

What I don't support are self-opinionated know-it-alls claiming that their opposition has been proved right, when then enquiry has yet to be even started. It might be, but that doesn't mean that we made mistakes at the time. We must always do what appears to be best, even if some disagree.

I know there were casualties, and that there are residual impacts. That's inevitable and would have been whatever strategy was adopted. If the anti-lockdown advocates had had their way they would still exist, but they would just be different. Whether better, or worse, cannot be known, because we have no evidence. All we have are the claims of the know-it-alls, who rely on events elsewhere when environments and circumstances don't replicate ours.

In general nurses are nurses because they do as they are told. You don't get to that position if you're a rebel. The same way footballers did the roman salute or kneel today.

Masks are more part of the medical uniform. High court lawyers use to wear wigs, it's part of the culture.

Masks are largely performative in terms of success. The totality of research has been saying this for a long time now. Only the strongest types make any difference at all and only in specific instances not over time.....Proof of the absurdity of the whole episode was the fact that the vast majority of masks were in effect just cloth over your face and in effect ridiculous.....yet you had to wear one.

It was all about social compliance, all about showing you supported the madness and hysteria. A void of critical thinking.

What happened with masks was nothing short of a totalitarian disgrace.

While I'm quite well known for being anti getting into wars now....which as a former neo con goes against my former form....it is really quite something just how scot free the Chinese got away with this whole thing.

In terms of criticism I think they are fully deserving of the blame for this whole event yet they escaped pretty much everything....you couldn't even call the virus the normal naming convention because the woke jokes in place at the institutions wanted to virtue signal.

Of course, some could also say that who funds ends up being who runs.

You make me laugh. No matter how hard I try to explain that the EU is democratic, but just in a different way, that I don't want parliament to be secret, just the voting of its members to be done in private, that "silent praying" is fine, but intimidation is not and that whilst persecution is never acceptable, nor is restricting the rights of people not to hear, or give space to, things if they choose not to. Deciding you no longer want to represent someone, or cancelling their booking, is not persecution. It's the precise opposite. It's freedom.

I have been watching "Rise of the Nazis" on iPlayer. There are several episodes. Whilst the events themselves are all pretty well known this is a detailed exploration of the motivations and psychological mind sets of the senior Nazis, explained by some very well qualified experts.

There are chilling parallels to some attitudes around today, providing lessons which ought never be forgotten.

Why do I mention this? If you haven't seen it then take some time and do. It's well worthwhile. Then, perhaps, you will understand.

All of the above can be summarised with just 2 letters. BS.

That nurses are disciplined doesn't mean they cannot think, and I haven't encountered one yet, and because of my wife I have met many, who doesn't think they are a sensible precaution.

It is just common sense that restricting a heavy viral load being expelled in a concentrated way is better than not doing so.

Whilst the wearing of simple cloth coverings were more to do with reassurance than impact in the early days, those days are behind us.

I would love to see you debate your approach with not only the nurses but the specialist consultants I know. They would tear you to pieces.

Nonsense

There has been far more recent research

A large, randomized trial led by researchers at Stanford Medicine and Yale University has found that wearing a surgical face mask over the mouth and nose is an effective way to reduce the occurrence of COVID-19 in community settings.
