There is a lot of rubbish spoken on the option of Paddy not being able to be groomed for manager after Roy, as i have said before, Mikel Arteta seems to have done ok, Rodgers learned under Mourinho, and under Shankley the legendary boot room at Liverpool spawned Paisley, Fagan and Evans, so in my opinion, if you think Roy is a class act, as i do, then it should be given major thought.

The romantic in me loves the idea of Paddy taking up the mantle and leading Palace to glory, but we have no idea if he has the makings of a manager at senior level, let alone PL level. The more experienced first-team players may possibly be able to offer some insight to Parish and Dougie, as might Roy and Ray, but as fans we have no real basis for his credentials. If staff inside the club think he has the ability to be a top PL manager then the idea of Roy mentoring him for a season or two with Paddy as his assistant is not that far fetched, but in reality we have no idea how plausible that is or whether Roy would even consider it. Personally I have the ridiculous hope that Speroni will turn out to be a tactical genius and step up from the academy to become manager and lead us to our greatest period in history.

Of Course i am not saying give him the Job now, but if Roy stays it is worth a year of consideration, at the end of next season.

Is it any different to Arteta learning under Pep.

Very good point Lanzo. It could be that even if the new manager is not Roy but someone younger like Potter, or Rogers, part of the negotiations could concern having Paddy as part of the coaching team?

I was having that very discussion last night with a Brighton fan that asked me if Potter would be welcomed as a Palace manager.

My view is that I could tolerate it if Paddy remains as part of Potters set up. I would not be able to accept Bruno as his assistant - he's just too Brighton for my liking. ( although a very nice guy away from football ).

Oliver Glasner the Frankfurt manager is leaving in the end of the season. It would be very difficult to get him Palace would probably need to give him at least 4-5 signings this summer. But he is a good manager won the Europa League in 2022.

In time McCarthy might become a Premier league manager. If he had had two or three years as coach to Pep, that might be soon. If he had years of under studying the great Bill Shankly . He would have likely become a top manager.. Brendan , did time in the Championship.
He has had ten or so games as a first team coach, and a few on here think he should be considered. You might be right a year working with the players, and under Roy , that’s if Roy is up for it, could make him suitable, personably I would still have reservations. But if it happened only the club would know how tactically astute he was and if he had the squad in his pocket , which is vital.

the only manager i ever want at Palace is one with a long CV of previous success.

coulda, shoulda , woulda......is a guarantee of failure.

for example : Roy Keane has learned under many World-class managers. An amazing player & captain. A leader on the pitch.

.....and a shyte manager.

Eze Peasy at Anfield....

Roy Keane did get Sunderland promoted into the PL season 2006-07 as champions after they were relegated the previous season.
