The free agent market can throw up all sorts of intriguing possibilities. A lot of players get to a certain wage, then they drop out of favour at their club, then they sit tight on their contracts, then they are unemployed, then they want to continue to earn the same money they have been earning in recent years, then they get offers below that level, then they sit tight all summer in the hope of getting better offers, then they don't get them, then there they are.... a top-flight, often international standard player, free of injury, but with no job whilst all around them lesser players are being bought for fees! You usually see 'Best Fee Agent XIs' around, and often they seem capable of at least staying up in the Premier League.... Premier League News Each squad contains no more than 17 players who do not fulfil the "Home Grown Player" (HGP) criteria. The rest of the squad, up to a total of 25 players, must be "Home Grown". Each club's squad list is below, as well as an additional list of each club's registered Under-21 players who are eligible over and above the squad limit of 25 players. (For more on "Home Grown Players" and an explanation on the Under-21s, see the bottom of the page.)

According to those 'lovable rogues' at the bbc, there are 9(nine) clubs who have not got 25 players listed in their 25 man squad, wait for it . . . Chelsea & Man City are 2 of them, Really?

Pep likes a small squad. He prefers players who are versatile and can play or be trained to play in more than one position, so he doesn't need like for like cover in every position. As for Chelsea, how many of their players were still under 21 at the beginning of this year. Like our Ahamada, they'll be in the U21 list even if they are regular 1st team squad players. Ah well, still a basket case of a club.
