Everyone seems to have fallen for the "leak" from the Club, 24hrs after the Brighton game. "Roy is a very naughty boy and he has been told! He's treading on thin ice! He's on his final reprieve".

THe board is demonstrating it's concern...and I expect RH to be in charge until the end of his contract.

I respectfully disagree SW.

There are many factors in football beyond that on paper. In any instance, I would suggest this team is, 'on paper', a lot more capable than the results and certainly performances we have seen this season.

Morale, fitness, coaching, tactics, formation, team selections, substitutions, set pieces, all these things contribute to a football team's performance and you could almost write separate essays on the extent to which each of these things have been shockingly very poor at Palace.

I really hate this seemingly accepted sentiment that we have a really sh!t team with only one or two decent players and the discussion stops there with the manager entirely removed as part of the equation. If others disagree they're fully entitled to however the absolute shambolic and pathetic performances we've put in, for me, extends well beyond 'the players are sh!t'. It all stems from the manager as far as I can see. I'm sure many could do far worse, but equally, there has to be a number who could do a lot better.

It's the root of the issue, the most easily and perhaps only thing that can be changed in such dire times.

All correct observations regarding 'beyond that on paper', but ultimately, you can't do more with less.

As per my previous post – a new manager might get them playing more positively but ultimately without our three (now four) most important players, we have no creativity whatsoever. Even the most talented manager in the world isn't getting results from what's currently available, other than draws and losses.

The reason we are leaking goals is because we no longer have Doucoure. The reason we are not scoring goals or playing more positively is because we do not have Eze OR Olise. Both of those things are now going to get even worse as Guehi is now out – someone who contributes to positive play and defensive play. This does not change with a new manager.

Our team is average and defensive without those four. Play more offensively or high press and you'll get tanked 8-1 by Brighton, rather than 4-1.

I'm not saying Roy doesn't need to go, he does. He should never have started the season. But I am saying timing is everything.

Changing manager without anyone to come in with the players we have out is currently far worse than keeping him in the position. We did this already in the 90s. The same result will occur here – move from flirting with the drop to guaranteed relegation.

The players are not individually s***, but they can't be anything better than average when Eze, Olise, Guehi and Doucoure are out. That's about 200m worth of talent, BTW.

Anyone who thinks a midfield of Hughes, Wharton, Schlupp et al will mean we suddenly start getting points on the board against all comers with a new manager (who doesn't exist) is deluded. If they did manage to get someone in at short notice, they'd likely be third choice due to the timing, immediately lock in uber defensive football to make the best of what they have and try and draw their way to safety until the more creative players return, saddling us with someone we don't really want, with no guarantees of things getting better, and costing us a boatload when we inevitably decide that third choice was a bad idea and we should have gone for first.

If my interpretation of your sentiments is right and proper you are basically stating that as far as this season is concerned "We're doomed" !.

Firstly, you are, of course, entitled to your opinion, as I am to mine. It's simply that we disagree.

As to what would I like to Hodgson to do (if eh stays):

I would like him:

1. to recognize that we are currently unable to be set up to avoid the opposition scoring. That is now 12 consecutive league games in which we have conceded, and in 10 of those games we conceded the first goal scored in the game. And yet, Hodgson still insists on setting us up not to lose. Roy's system worked ok in the first 11 league games - we achieved no fewer than 5 clean sheets but then we lost Doucoure. It should have been obvious fairly quickly thereafter that we didn't have a suitable replacement in our ranks and so a change of system and tactics was required. But not to Hodgson it didn't.
2. to recognize that both Hughes and Schlupp are only likely to get worse, not better whereas some youngsters who have been given occasional outings are only likely to get better if given more regular game time. Furthermore, youngsters such as Franca, Ahamada and Ozoh have the incentive to prove themselves. Schlupp and Hughes are well past that stage IMO. The youngsters are probably both quicker and fitter than those two.
3. to use Franca or Ahamada as a no.10 in Eze's absence, so as to at least provide more of an attacking threat. Now that Rak-Sakyi is almost back, I would hope to see him in Olise's position very soon.
4. to practise attacking plays with our available attacking options rather than only focus on such when both Eze and Olise are available (something he implied in a recent interview).

Finally, the arrival of both Munoz and Wharton does seem to provide some hope as both are forward thinking players. I hope Hodgson will recognize that and include them from the start of upcoming games.

In short, I want Hodgson to set us up to try and win games rather than trying to park the bus. I know we have limited resources but it's clear (to me, and it seems most others who've commented in recent times on this site) that Hodgson's system isn't working and that he doesn't seem to have a Plan B.

Yes you are right to say we dont agree. You are speaking like you know what you are talking about yet claim Hughes and Shlupp are getting worse. I'm not going to answer any of your points because I cannot be bothered to write a novel and I have better things to do. You seem the type that is determined to disagree regardless anyway.
All I will say we are not on the training ground day in day out. We can all make decisions and observations based on what we see on a match day. Thats fair enough up to a point. When fans talk as though they know more than the manager I tend to switch off. Its embarrassing.

Sorry, but,
firstly, we're not Charlton and
secondly, as a fan of over 50 years standing I don't (and I don't think many others who disagree with you) have ideas beyond our station. Whilst I didn't want Hodgson to come back, I accepted it and supported him as I did throughout his first tenure when many were rubbishing him in the final two seasons of that tenure.

Unlike the Charlton fans, I'm not demanding that we go to the next level. That's not a possibility until, inter alia, we upgrade our ground and increase our revenue.

My issue with Hodgson is that he seems to have lost it and I simply want someone in who will keep us in this league, something I think Hodgson is no longer equipped to do.

The evidence?
1. His attack on young players
2. His attack on fans (yes I know he apologized for both but a manager of his experience should never have said what he did).
3. His persistence on putting square pegs in round holes instead of using the limited (young) round pegs he has in those holes.
4. His insistence of continuing with a system that isn't working when he doesn't have the players available for it.
5. Players' performances are worsening before our very eyes. Why? Is it because they know the system isn't working and they and so they're not committed to it?
6. His keep wanting to bring our two stars back before they're really ready. We don't know what has passed between the physios/medical people and Hodgson but he's been quick to point out that Eze and Olise have said they're ready to play as an excuse for playing them when the medical people have suggested a longer period would be advisable. How many more hamstrings have to go before Hodgson stops doing that? Let's face it, bringing Olise on at the Amex was criminal and that's not being said with hindsight. I groaned with foreboding when I saw he was being brought on as, I suspect did many fans. That substitution strongly suggests it was an act of desperation on Hodgson's part to try and keep his job.

Not really supporting him now though are you so the highlighted sentance means nothing. I also did not want Roy for another year but felt we should all get behind him. That has to be all season, Not just until things start going wrong.

I think it needs to be someone with the appropriate coaching badges already in place - otherwise I would have suggested Marc Guehi, lol

I would imagine the relationship between Roy and the medical team would have become pretty untenable. Some serious blame game there.

There are clearly issues at the club at the moment.
The disconnect between Roy and the medical team.
The uncharacteristic behaviour of Anderson.
The tweet from Sam Johnstone's brother suggesting there are issues around Sam losing his place.
The way that the team appeared to throw in the towel v Brighton and Arsenal.
The leaks, presunambly from Textor, that Hodgson's position is untenable.
One could glibly say these are typical issues when form is poor and nothing that a couple of victories wouldn't put right.
I'm not so sure.
To me something has broken and the club needs a fresh voice and approach to kickstart the season.
If we genuinely can't attract anyone after approaching people it diminishes any remaining authority of Hodgson, who looks increasingly like a lame duck, as well as being embarrassing for the club.

An excellent post.
For all those making excuses for Roy and or our predicament, look at the situation from another angle which is essentially to say this where we are right here right now. Let's wipe the slate clean and ask: how are we going to pick up the necessary points to avoid relegation given what we have? Shall we continue doing the same thing which has led us to this state? Or do we find other ways of doing things?
I believe that Roy is totally incapable of thinking outside the box and accepting that the methods that have brought him some longevity and minor success in the game don't work anymore. That's why he keeps repeating the same errors. He just doesn't want to learn some new tricks. Simply put he is stubborn and stuck in his ways, as we have seen.
Therefore another way has to be tried, which ultimately means a replacement for Roy. Unfortunately I think Parish has missed the boat and is in procrastination mode, hoping that the teams below us stay below us and those that may have points deducted have them deducted. Under Roy's leadership I can't see where the points are coming from.

I think most would be of the opinion that if the perfect or even a decent replacement were available a change could be helpful. Helpful, not a magic wand. The new guy would still face the same injury problems that Roy is currently dealing with. And now Rak-Saki is apparently also injured the creativity is even more sparce. But looking at the candidates being mentioned I cant really see how that change can currently happen right now.
You have the much mentioned Cooper (because he is available). He did well with England youth and he did well in the Championship. He did not do well in the Premiership. As mentioned by many he had literally ten times the budget at Forest he would get at Palace as well as half the injury problems. While at Forest (during a torrid time where forced to sack Vieira) Forest were never once above or even close to us in the table. Only my opinion but for those reasons I definitely do NOT think he would be an improvement especially with the current limited squad. The owners quite obviously are not interested or he'd have been approached by now.
There is Lupetego who did a decent job at Wolves but the rumours of his outragous demands that prompted Wolves to pull the plug make him sound too expensive for Palace.
Potter has been mentioned. I wouldn't be against that but some sections of our fanbase would be quick to jump on any poor performances and tolerance would be far less because he is ex Brighton. Plus if you read the news it seems he is holding out for a bigger job to become available.
People talk about Paddy which I think is truly ridiculous. Not only is he part of the coaching set up that everyone is complaining about but on top of that you dont risk £120m a year income on a total novice.
Freedman has been mentioned by a few as a short term option. From what has been said by people that know him, he doesn't want it. Not even on a short term basis.
There's Paolo Fonseca who is currently working in France with Lille and while he has expressed a desire to manage in the Premiership and has revealed he will not renew his contract he is absolutely not available until the summer.
Same situation with England No.2 Steve Holland who has made it known he wants a job as a no,1 after the Euros. Until the summer he is going nowhere.

There will be other candidates out there that I haven't mentioned or thought of but for me there does not seem to be an obvious improvement on what we currently have out there that is available until the summer which is when Roy will be leaving anyway. I realise some will feel anyone would be an improvement but that is really just silly when you look at Roy's experience.
