Perhaps, but if the theory were true...which is unlikely, I somewhat doubt they would only be following what we were sniffing at.

All clubs, regardless of set ups will be taking note of their rival's transfer interests.

This is typical of palace year after year in the transfer market.
We are like someone entering MasterChef & not bothering to get any ingredients & leaving it till last minute & end up going in the petrol station trying to buy caviar but end up making do with a tin of sardines ...

Why buy unripe fruit if it is not ready to be eaten. It will only sit on the kitchen window sill waiting to ripen up along with all the other bits that are taking forever to get ripe.
What we need right now are juicy bits all ready to go with no ifs and buts. Not easy with our management. Problem is that we always get guzumped for these types by the time we have flaffed about with low bids drawing everyone else's attention.
Yet again our discord is dubiously letting us down.

We now know that a bid was made as their manager confirmed it. What I always find baffling is why we wait so late to make a move. Surely if we have had approached them at the beginning of January they might have been more receptive as they'd have more time to replace him. Or is he the alternative to Philips?

My one reservation with this deal is a lot of reports have talked of him having a lack of pace, which given the speed of the PL could be an issue. It's certainly one of the reasons Hughes has struggled sometimes.
