I was thinking 4 points over the weekend. That would put them and Everton at a similar points total to Luton thus giving them all a chance of survival .......convenient manipulation .

Everton could still get another 6. Forest's difference is that they delayed selling Johnson so as to increase the fee they ultimately got; in other words they tried to mitigate their losses and succeeded albeit outside of the timeframe. I will be surprised if Forest succeed in getting the deduction reduced on appeal. The powers that be won't want clubs appealing every time and being successful. I wouldn't be surprised if the independent commission have dotted every 'i' and crossed every 't' legally, so that their decision will be seen as sound by any appeal commission.

Agree with this assessment, Forest employed a top KC to represent them at the inquiry & i believe this is the final outcome with no appeal forthcoming, bit like a 'plea-bargin' if you like. As for Everton . . .

In terms of their battle against Luton, Forest's points deduction is only 1 point worse for them than that last minute equaliser at the weekend.

Cements Forest as a must not lose game for us. If we beat them then I think job's a good'un.

A draw would still be a good result as it would keep an 8 point gap. Everton, luton and forest all have to play each other.

I now have forest and luton locked together on GD at the end of the season!!! It could go down to the wire as there are only 2 goals between them.

What may save forest is that they have to play Sheff utd and Burnley in 2 of their last 3 games. If they are already down then the fight may have gone from their game.

Everyone in the media talks about how Forest are only in breach because they wouldn't sell Johnson on the cheap in June (and got £13m more for him by waiting two months) but the reality is they knew they had exceeded their allowed spend in the previous window in January and instead of looking to sell they actually continued buying players!
On this issue I agree with the Premier League's statement. Forest were reckless, ignored the rules then tried to used the Brennan Johnson sale as an excuse. They were £34m over the limit. Thats more than Everton's first breach. I think their 4 points should stand. Appeal or no appeal.

Completely agree, I don't see them getting any points back.

If I were a Forest fan I'd be more worried that:

- We've made a lot of the 3 year loss we're allowed to make already
- We'll have committed outgoings for all these signings over their contract lengths in the coming years
- Not many of these players have gone up in value
- We're still s***.

For them to get competitive, either the same group needs to get a lot better, or they need to sell a big boy or two (is anyone really clamouring over any of their players to the extent they'd pay over the odds?) and spend much more wisely than they have been.

They could survive this season, but this may just be delaying the inevitable. A Leeds, Leicester, Southampton promotion is going to make next season tough.

If they appeal the points deducted should increase.

I think the Pl are trying to use Forest as a poster by for the process, "cooperate and it's not to severe".

One more point

I think the 4 points is probably fair given the reasons around the Johnson transfer .

What I don't like about it is the appeal process . Appeal must be lodged a week before the end of the season which means if they are safe they do nothing but if they need the points back to stay up they appeal .
Thats not fair on the sides that are in the mix with them as they wont know what sort of results they need going into the final games

And we still need a striker

Although this is from the bbc(easier to access) this explains things pretty well & I'd be very surprised if there was an appeal. . . [Link]

As was pointed out on a news programme today, the timing of the sale of Johnson was irrelevent when taking into consideration their case/punishment.

They new well in advance that they were breaking the FFP rules and they were still buying their 40 odd players over the 2 P'ship windows.

They should've either kept Johnson and not signed some of the players or sold him first and then spent accordingly.

It was no excuse.

Just to clear up one thing, any appeal by Forest has to be submitted within 7 days from today ie by 25th March, not 7 days before the end of the season.
