By the way I've noticed that personal abuse is creeping into this thread again, as it has in other similar threads. I realise that nationality, war, religion and so forth are very emotive subjects for us all, but it doesn't mean we have to descend into petty name-calling just to make a point. In fact, it cheapens the message rather than reinforces it. Come on people, let's act a bit more mature -- this isn't the House of Commons you know.

Slugs, I agree the world needs proof and I'm sure it'll come, but at the end of the day, you wouldn't believe it anyway! Also, the way I see it, WWII was a pretty effective action in affecting peace in Europe, sure, appeasement would have ultimately avoided war, well, for a while anyway, and we'd all be speaking German now, but, what the f***, just as long as we continue to say Halten Sie Den Krieg auf! Pah! Right firstly I never said the English didn't have a culture. I said that I wasn't sure a "native culture" of England exists. And I stand by that comment. I think that we have mixed to become such a multi-racial society that our culture is multi-racial not English or any other -ish. Your definition of Englishness is narrow. I know a number of people who define themselves as English but who would not agree with your terms. I myself would count in that category. I consider myself English but don't meet a selection of your criteria. And I can guarantee than a highly significant proportion of the English population wouldn't either. I would indeed describe Englishness as a state of mind. I think nationality as a whole is. But if someone wants to define themselves as English then that is fine by me -- whether they meet your stringent (and frankly ludicrous) conditions or not.

2 words SHUT BRITAIN. Just for a year to sort ourselves out for once, close the "euro tunnel" which is how 80% of them get into the country anyway. Then Sort out our Health Care, Public Transport, and our Crime rate, then get someone to take over from David Blunket who can Actually "SEE" whats happening to this country. Once we got this sorted out, then we can start to think about others.

Does anyone know, as compared to the other eleven EU nations, how we rank as regards intake of immigrants? I think you might be surprised... I suggest you stop reading the Daily Xenophobe and find out the facts first.

Not quite sure if this thread is about the upcoming war or immagrants. This war is against terrorism (supposidly). It is obvious Sadam has connections with Bin Laden and the Al Queda network. Something has got to be done. We cannot just sit back and let whatever happens happen. Put yourselves in the shoes of the bloke who lost his 8 month pregnant wife in the Twin Towers attack, and then tell me we should sit back. As for the immagrants situation, someone mentioned earlier that these poor people have been driven from there homes. This is exactly what they are doing to us now. Picture East London 20 years ago and picture it now. Things have changed me thinks. Why is that do you think???? Why is it that you can walk through East Ham and actually struggle to see an "Englishman"??? OK maybe people arn't being forced to move from there home because there lives are at risk, but how long will it be before this is the case???

Sorry, have you SEEN proof that Saddam is linked with Bin Laden? I doubt it. In fact they are enemies -- Bin Laden and his cronies have often denounced Saddam and Iraq, so why would they now be allies? As for the bloke who lost his wife in the NY terror attacks, obviously I feel bad for him and all the others -- but will a war bring the victims back, or just create more? What feelings are we allowed to have for those who lost their wives and children in Palestine and Iraq over the last ten or more years? The sheer numbers of deaths in these two countries alone, that are directly attributable to military action, dwarfs the casualties suffered on 11 September 2001. A sense of perspective required methinks.

Well excuse me for being pedantic, but as the English ARE the native people of England, I took the term 'native culture' as meaning English culture. So you're saying multiculturalism has swamped and finally eradicated Englishness? Well I almost agree with you there, at least we're halfway there, but if you really believe that England and the English no longer exist as a culture then you're a way bigger fool than you sound. My definition of Englishness is narrow? How so? So if Bin Laden "thinks" he's as English as me, you think that's fine and dandy? Hilarious! I "think" I'll be Mexican today, and lo and behold... I am!! Excellent!! Bloody hell, at least HMHS has solid arguments to back up his beliefs, I can sometimes understand where he's coming from, but you and "Sad All Over"... Nah. Slugs, sorry mate, I know I get out of my tree sometimes and I apologise, I lose my temper far too often and you're right, it does diminish my point, but that's me. I'll try to curtail my furore, but England, as you know, is something I'm VERY passionate about and I WILL NOT see England and her native culture dismissed out of hand.

No worries Pete, as I said I understand it's an emotive issue, and anyone who even slightly knows you will know that it's the number one issue for you. I liked the concept of thinking you're English -- do you think it would work for Mohamed Al Fayed?

stangely enough Pete, when you think about it, your defination of being an englishman is rather like that of a defination of a palace fan, appropriate bits deleted and all that one thing which has got me over the past while, is i know an immigrant who is from south africa. he's white, came here because of the threat of his life of his family and children from black south africans. he's shown he is prepared to work, evidence he of his life in danger, and is a very straight citizen... yet he's being shipped back there next year so why should the group of albanians in my road, who were moved in place of an old peoples home, be allowed to stay when they are constantly in trouble with the police, litter, and generally cause havoc within our area, when there are genuine people, who are VERY grateful for being allowed here and show it by WORKING and not SPONGING be treated differently? should he start beating people up, littering and throwing bricks at peoples houses so he can stay? its an interesting argument by the way HMHS... one of the reasons mohammed al fayed wont be getting a work permit is down to his initial startup of his business according to someone i know inside the council, they were saying something about a long while ago he was involved in some dody dealings. gotta say he looks a bit shady!!
