Sado's whole argument is based on 'Opinion Polls'! What opinion polls I do not know. The Richard & Judy opinion poll? The Times opinion poll? Who knows? Opinion polls do not project the opinion of the country, they never have. I've never been asked to take part in an opinion poll and I don't know a single person who has, so it seems to me you're referencing opinion polls answered by the sort of person that takes part in opinion polls, which is basically NOT Jo Public or a clear picture of truth. Slugs, I'm trying mate , I'm REALLY am trying, but it's getting harder by the minute, extremely hard!

A few points to clear up from earlier in the thread; I think Condoleezza Rice is so hated because she served as a security adviser on Bush the Elder's National Security team when they were screwing the Middle East earlier last decade. Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein hate each other as Ozzy thinks Saddam is a traitor to the Muslim faith and Mr. Hussein dislikes Al-Queda because they promote trouble in Iraq. Not forgetting Donald "Barking Mad" Rumsfeld...

I fail to see why this thread is becoming a "let's get at GAO" session. I have just read through the entire thing again, and (if I may, GAO old buddy) I'd like to highlight a few of his comments so far. What the hell is wrong with this statement? Nothing. Can anyone seriously believe that the MAJORITY of immigrants, legal or otherwise, are here for nefarious purposes? I'm sorry but that just doesn't wash. I grant you, those that make the newspapers show an ugly side of the asylum situation, but innocent people trying to live their lives in peace doesn't sell papers. You have to open your minds a little and see past the obvious, past what we are spoon-fed by the media. Every time you read the paper or watch the news, you have to remember that the "information" given to us is filtered and skewed according to the editorial bias. It is NOT pure, unadulterated truth. Let's just remember that we had crime before the asylum seekers came here, and we'll have crime after they have gone. It may hurt some of you to hear this, but the native British are just as bad as those who are coming in from abroad. Yes, we have an influx of Albanian gangsters at the moment, but does this mean that ALL incomers are criminals? How would you feel, for example, if you were naturally assumed to be a football hooligan just because a few of your countrymen are? Quote And what do you regard as English? Someone born here? I'm sure that's not good enough for you. How many generations would you have to go down before you were accepted as English? How far back would you yourself have to go to find non-'English' ancestry? You can't use colour any more, because alot of the asylum seekers are white. It must be difficult for you and your buddies to draw the lines these days.
Again, this makes perfect sense to me. I've lost count of the number of times I've heard people refer to third-generation (or later) Brits as foreign. I think it's a fair question to ask where the line is drawn, especially given the complicated ancestry of every one of us. Take, for example, a black Briton whose grandparents came over on the Windrush. They, and their parents, were born here. Some of their family may well have served in the military, in defence of nation and empire. Yet they are not "English" by definition, but British. Are they worth less as people than, say, me? Quote The Americans are the biggest international terrorists of the modern age, though of course they do it under righteous banners. Why do we always have to be puppets in their world domination (if not geographical, then certainly financial) policies? Why doesn't our government listen to the voice of the thinking majority for once? .... I am certainly anti-war in general and definately against the killing of innocent civilians. What makes it far worse is when there is no motive for the war other than financial or political gain, as is the case now.
I think you'll find a vast majority of Britons, and people from every other country (other than perhaps the USA and Israel) feels the same. The unquestioning following of the USA's imperialist line has caused untold damage to so many nations, yet we continue to follow them blindly. They have attacked, bombed, and caused coups in so many countries since 1945, and not one of them now has a free democratic society. Why are they so keen on Iraq when Israel has broken many more UN mandates? Why did they (belatedly) get into the Yugoslavia situation, and the Kuwait war, and yet leave the Tibetans to suffer under violent occupation for over fifty years? I think these are all questions we should ask. If our leaders are no longer accountable, how can you claim to be free? By all means attack GAO's views and opinions, but not the man himself. If you ask me he makes a hell of a lot of sense.

I think Eddie's point is that "native" Englishman aren't standing on corners holding guns. There's a lot of law-abiding, tax-paying Jamaicans in the UK but there's a huge amount of illegal Jamaican immigrants involved in drug and gun crime which has to be stamped out as it's getting worse.

Pete, if he hasn't completed his profile, how do you know he's rich? I lived in Bath for seven years when I was a youngster, and believe me even Bath has rough areas with poor people in it. Let's leave all that for the playground (I know, I know, you're trying your hardest!) and keep the debate sensible.
