Yeah but that's because, prior to the building of the Holmesdale stand, you can't tell Selhurst is there from afar. If it was a tier higher then people might go "oo, there's a stadium over there, I shall investigate this".

It would if we progressed on the pitch, maybe win a cup, qualify for europe, build slowly but surely, and can always give local schools free tickets to fill any unsold seats and grow the next generation of season ticket holders!

I'd agree with you on the stats however its a chicken and egg scenario...unless there's the capacity to fill you wont fill it. Look at West Ham...their average attendances bear no relevance to the 52k season tickets they'd sold up to last month...

You have to look at our rivals on the south coast (and I know I am starting to seem a bit obsessed with them lately). That stadium, as much of a blight on the landscape as it is, can be seen whenever you head out along the A27 and from a huge portion of the South Downs Way. A lot of people I know who watch Brighton deny that their fanbase increased when they built a shiny plastic turd with a big capacity, but they went from almost filling a stadium with a capacity of around 9,000 to regularly almost filling a stadium with a capacity of around 30,000. I do hear the argument that we might not instantly fill 40,000 seats, but I do think we'd start filling more than our current highest average quoted above at around 29k. In particular, we'd have the scope to accommodate some more away fans as well (whilst fleecing them). I reckon the demand for tickets from at least half the teams in the Premier League out-weighs the current allocation we give away teams.

We can hardly ever progress to a top club without at least 40k, and the way footballs going we could use top tier that isnt filled as advertising space, taking it down as we sell different isles, that way making money and having seats in place for the next generation!

How many more seasons of profits would be needed to cover the cost of the main stand and the WH End? I doubt many more and I doubt it's any time soon we'll need to cover the costs of further work with the Arfur and The Holmesdale so I wouldn't worry. How you can compare gates of season 69/70 to now is a complete joke. It's a different generation! Games are sold out almost every week and the club can easily sell up to 31k when the Main Stand is fully built. Then the club will increase the Whitehorse will take it from there. Even if the 40k stadium is full for half the games and 3/4 full for the rest, who cares? You only have to look at the financial figures of each PL club to know we can't compete unless we have a 40k plus stadium. And if you don't back us to stay in the Premier League over the coming years, win something and even dream of doing a Leicester, then not sure we want that support.
