I look forward to empirical evidence the young no longer cut the lawn.

I have noticed they seem quite keen on cooking and buying decent food. The BBC are very good at sneaking in public information films about stuff like cookery whilst disguising it as entertainment and it appears to be having an effect. Young people are even learning how to sew it seems.

Whatever you think of social media it is the future and fluency is actually rather important. As indeed you as a silver surfer seem to have adopted given you are on this site quite a bit.

I have said this many times, I have faith in the youth of South London, albeit mostly those South of Selhurst. And I find them better informed than many of the older generation with whom I meet. In any case it's going to be their world soon enough. It always amazes me how few people understood the point Knut tried to make so cleverly.

My observations are based solely on the behaviour of the students who lived opposite me for 3 years compared to the Nigerian family that now rent the same property.

It was like watching groundhog day every Monday morning as the students got up a good 2 hours after the bin men had gone and realised their pizza cartons, beer tines etc would have to be taken to the recycling centre or lazily put in the shed for another week.

Their front lawn became a jungle of weeds and long grass, but good cover for a p1ss when they were having a late night BBQ/Party and couldn't be arsed to go indoors.

Oh yes Maple.... I've seen it all.

I now have a delightful Nigerian family of 8 who are polite, responsible and friendly cheerful people living opposite and my blood pressure is much lower observing them going about life than the arseholes that lived there before tbh.

tbf Hoof I'd consider whether 18-30 year olds living at home are aware of the realities of life and what needs to be done rather than university students that know they're out of there in June or after 3/4 years.

I'm not saying you're wrong because a lot are not reigned in following teenage years but are fully kitted out in designer labels, the latest iphone and enough pocket money to do what they want without needing to look for a part-time job, often because mum doesn't want them to get one.

Funnily enough I have seen the opposite. Lazy 90 year olds who just can't be bothered to cut the grass, or indeed wipe the slather from their chins.

The generations have always had a pop at one another, just a fact of life. But if you take the view young people are all lazy idiots it's no wonder you so blithely choose to make all their decisions for them.

Which is obviously a fair way to judge the work ethic of an entire generation of people.

Let me hazard a guess. 16 and 17 year olds. Still, at least the 13m under 18 year olds can rely on the 11.6m over 65s to understand and represent their needs and wishes for the long term.

Have you been living in a cupboard all your life???
You have to be 18 years old to vote as that is the law. Next you will be saying ANYONE should be able to vote...Get a grip and accept that the we the older generation have more knowledge of life than the young ones. IF the 18 year old members of the public had bothered to register instead as Rudi has said prior to this, spent their time on social media and at Glastonbury then they would have some sort of gripe, but as always they were too tied up in their own little facebook and mobile world they missed the boat and we oldies went out in the rain and put our crosses on the voting sheet and we won the vote ... I suggest you just get on with it and support any measures that assist in us leaving the European state and making our country GREAT again!

I wouldn't have put it in such a way but I understand your sentiments.

It is the so called "Young" who will benefit from NOT being part of the EU in years to come.My goodness, EU membership has hardly helped the young with unemployment in this age group up to 50% in some member states. In this respect the EU has spectacularly failed the young generation.

Well said Willo

ICM poll the other day said 7% of Leavers have changed their mind. Would need at least another 7%-9% to put real pressure on for a second referendum unless they just ignore the result of the first one.

There's going to be no second referendum so the "Remainers" will just have to accept the result. And I would express the same sentiments if "Remain" had succeeded - we "Brexiters" would have just had to accept it and move on.By the way, I am not one of the 7% !!!!

Something I read on Friday. It will be in either that day's The Daily Mail or Guardian. Can't remember which. Think it was ICM.
