Interesting how politics seems to be a surrogate for football. Perhaps it's just another form of tribalism. But just remember which takes precedence, we are all Palace despite being lefty pinko/righty fascist/ginger/black/white/fat/old/young blah blah blah

Transgender?

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

And football is a surrogate for beating each other about the head with rocks.

Much as I love Palace, the interests of my family come first and my 'politics' reflects that.Tribalism begins at home for me.
Debating/squabbling on here is great therapy and allows one to express frustrations. Perhaps if some of the people who do violence had a better outlet for theirs, they would think twice about their actions.
Of course some will never be saved.

I'm delighted that my kids have the opportunity to go to a Grammar school and University. My daughter has just graduated and I'm very happy that she didn't endure the crappy comprehensive education I got and the indifference to education that my parents and grandparents showed because their 'class' didn't aspire to higher education.
In the 80's when I left school, jobs were getting scarce and a life of low pay beckoned if you weren't qualified. If you want to do well in any era, you have to adapt and make the most of the prevailing conditions.
Certainly house prices are insane now and that is difficult for the young but again they must adapt as people have done before.

Genuine congrats for getting your daughter through Uni. Hope she and all like her find a suitable, paying outlet for their talents......

Well I think Simon's head is large; always involved in espionage. (Name that tune)

I'd argue that this is one of the worst times to be young. No chance of getting a house / flat because wages are s***. They've been through a s***storm of exam changes mid course at school, They're the first generation for a long time that will be worse off than their parents. If you want to train to go into public service, nurse, plod, teacher etc you've got to get into a s*** load of debt. If you want a good job you probably need a degree with the debts involved, if academia isn't your bag, where are the training schemes or apprenticeships (I moaned about yts but do know a few people who did well out of it career wise).
EMA's have gone discouraging kids from poorer backgrounds entering college.

I could add more.

No wonder many of the young have got the hump (but it's easier to dismiss glibly as we have seen on this thread) than to try and see things from their perspective.

Agreed, and i honestly feel sorry them.
The past 30 or so years has been nothing short of a catastrophic failure for the majority (regardless of what some here continue to believe........bless 'em), along with the 'yoof' being continually dragged into what basically amounts to a 'non-future'. It's s***.
I agree with 'Cucking' re- ''We've bred a bunch of pussies'' (or words to that effect). Personally i believe this is intentional as it's far easier to control a bunch of f***wits that can't think for themselves than..............

Me too mate. She did psychology so she has plenty of material to work on with yours truly if she needs the practice.

The baby boomers and their kids had it good in some ways but overall the youth today have a relatively soft life.

Every way. End of.

Yes rents are far too high but greater demand for housing has to be largely due to immigration.

The banks asking for way more of a down-payment from 'Joe Public' than they ask when dealing with other banks is the bigger issue.
T'is a funny old world.

Banks are greedy scum as are some landlords. This has to change. Quality of life is not hampered by tax or wages so much as by ridiculous mortgages and rents.

However, I was able to leave school at 16 with a clutch of O levels and get a job. I didn't have to go to Uni and pick up any form of debt - I actually started earning my own money at 16. I was also able, in my late 20's, to get a mortgage on a 1-bedroom starter home in the home counties on my own single wage plus my own savings.

Do you think any of that's possible for young people today? They may have access to the trappings of 21st century consumerism, but they are monumentally screwed compared with earlier generations.

Well said (thumbs-up).
It's just a shame that it'll fall on many deaf ears.
