You'd have have thought some of the people on this thread 'support' Man Utd via the tv (or don't watch them at all going by shirts you see out when the cvnts are on tv).

i just see the clause itself like an option that can be negotiated. I work in a world where that's very normal. I think such options have a place in football. If Barca want to pay us 5m for the right to buy Wilf for 75m in the next: yeah, give it to Sakho If Man U want to pay us 1m for the right to buy Wilf for 35m in the next: no f*** off buying clubs are perfectly entitled to walk away. I will admit though that some buy backs should be treated as loans by the FA if the buy back is too stingy.

Is there much different in high sell on clauses. I think with the sell on clause that p'boro had we actually didn't make a profit on Dwight Gayle sale to Newcastle.

Well lets stop keeping up any sort of illusion we are a football club and not a business..... Apart from the fact that your example highlights another point: I do not feel sorry for footballers but maybe it should be Wilf himself who decides where he plays next? If we bought a player from Barca for say 10 million in summer window who has a buy back clause of 20 m. He plays an absolute blinder for 3 months and Man C offer us 40 m. Can we sell to Man C or do Barca have first refusal at lower amount?

Who knows as Steve Parish never quotes figures and it's a well known fact that selling clubs tend to overstate their selling price whilst the buying club understates it when making public pronouncements

Wilf is critical to it. of course he is. just as he is with a transfer. my point is that these should not be banned. they can be a positive force in the game. can there be tweaks? sure. I really dislike Chelsea but for the good of the English game their excellent crop of young players need quality minutes. to me, buy options are a means for two clubs to work together and be rewarded for player development. the buying club can and should drive a hard bargain. for player development, buy options or buy backs offer a better hope than the loan system where the loaned player has to be a lot better than the team he's joining to be assured of game time.

Mardrid sold him to Juventus for £16m with a buy back clause. Then bought him back for £24m and sold him for £60-70m. Win win situation for the super club. Expect these deals to become common place.

Really hope we sell mutch with a buy back clause. One day we gonna need a new catering manager. He'd be perfect.
