OK, so you would do with the fragrant Priti

But would you with Penny Mordaunt?

And by the way, would Diane Abbott be viewed in a different light if she looked like Priti? Should Nick have a whip round for gym membership and some cosmetic surgery?

I also don’t remember Robert Mugabe being an English born Cambridge graduate.

I hold no torch for Abbott but the above comments superbly demonstrate Nick’s points that she is treated with excessive disdain due to her colour and probably her gender.

not at all,its more to do with her continual gaffes and errors, the Police wages thing was pathetic, as were all her other 'mistakes'.... her racist views re white people and her sending her kids to private schools while saying others shoudnt be allowed to....in short, her hypocracy!! nothing to do with her colour or sex!

Basically saying that if men can fight for their country at 16 they should also be able to vote.

News flash sh1t for brains you can't go on Combat Operations until your 18, and this from the Shadow Home Secretary !!!!

Thicker than a glue and whale omelette.

Can't stand Diane Abbott and as above OP says she is wrong about the age. However the principal I agree with. The SNP think kids should be allowed to vote at at 16 because they are adults. However if you try a 16 for a serious crime we are told they are a child and should be treated accordingly. Which is it? I am fine with 18 as the age of maturity if we drop it to 16 then the legal system should also be adjusted.

One more point

No way should it be 16.

At 16 all I could think about was football birds and w***ing in the order, not much has changed to be fair, other than adding beer into the mix, and I can now prioritise the four LOL.

But no way should a 16 year old have a say in who runs the country. Some idiot offers free cider, p*** and cheap holidays to shagaluf and they'll be PM FFS

That is where we differ.

I would ban over 75s (as a random figure) from voting. Someone offers winter fuel payments and free Werther's Originals they will vote for any old sh*t, even a self destructive blocking of accesses to our biggest market. This is a group with less skin in the game as in general they are not working and have little likelihood of entering work.

I believe 16 year olds are perfectly capable of learning how the system works and taking a considered interest, especially as they will be the ones to live with it longer term. I don't believe they are any more politically fickle than other age groups. That is why the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey let them vote and the Scottish sometimes let them.

One interesting approach is that in Bosnia, Serbia and Montenegro you can vote when under 18 providing you are in work.

I see your point albeit clearly from a remain point of view.

But isn't attracting voters with bluff and bluster essentially how you win votes from any demographic, my point being, that it is easier to sway the mind of the young and impressionable than the older and (allegedly) wiser generation.

So where you rightly point out about Worthers originals and free hip replacements, for the old it's no different to, control of our borders back, and leaving Europe for those that voted so.

But at 16 no just no, you'd end up with puffbiggy as PM

I know someone who served in Desert Storm (1992) who was 17, having joined up at 16. Although he didn't serve in combat role - But he was exposed to enemy fire (or more correctly American fire).

But yep, she's got s**t for brains.

Although I do think 16 year olds who work full time, should be allowed to vote - as they're paying tax and NI etc, they should get a say. That said, it seems a bit harsher that you can get married (with permission) and work full time, but not buy a legal pint in the pub with your legally earned wages.

I know which one p*ssed me off more at 17.

I think you and I must have been rather different 16 year olds. You were far nearer the point in your earlier post. Which brings me back to would you with Diane Abbott if she still looked like she did pre hamster cheeks

?

So you work all your life only to be denied democracy because of ageism.

Shall we deny voting to the stupid? So lets stop people voting who have an IQ under 90.

Hell, lets have children voting below 16.....Hell, who are you to decide when people have enough life experience.

In reality, all you care about is your viewpoint winning.

Well...I had to put up with living in your EU centric reality for decades without demanding the disfigurement of democracy.....now the boot is on the other foot. Perhaps you could do the same.
