I seem to remember during my time in the UK that no one really gave a toss about challenging women's right to an abortion. Perhaps some do but I must have missed this, and I dont seem to recall it being a political issue ever either?

The latest law in good old 'Bama means even victims of rape or incest cannot have an abortion, and any doctor performing one will be jailed for 99 years - more than the rapist.

The idea is to get this to the supreme court where Trump's 2 picks have now swung the balance in favor of the right, and Roe Vs Wade faces a serious threat.

I know we have a lot of conservative Trump fans here, but I am curious - do any of you think women shouldn't have the right to an abortion, particularly in cases of rape or incest?

Trump lost. Badly. Hahahahahahaha.

The rape/abortion argument is a sideline as it represents relatively so few cases but always seems to lead the argument.

Look at the numbers of cases in certain places and demographics e.g. I think in some cases 70%+ of all pregnancies being aborted. That just can't be right when effective contraception is freely available. It's simply people not taking responsibility and making this socially unacceptable is the only way to fix it.

Abortion is far too easy and seeing this purely as a woman's right over her own body is wrong especially now that feminists are pushing late term (3rd trimester) abortion which is unbelievable. Baby's are being treated like like some form of disease in some quarters.

If you want to be informed on this subject you need to understand the actual process of abortion. It's a terrible thing.

What I would like to know is if the people of Alabama voted for this? I thought these laws were only passed by a plebiscite in the states.

I am all for abortion and think it should be available on the NHS for both UK citizens and visitors in this country, going as far as to encourage it where possible.

In an overpopulated world we need as few new mouths in the benefits system as we can get.

Other than this very minor difference, I'd still vote for Trumpy boy if I was a yank.

This is just a bit of lip service for the Bible bashers.

Since you are based against Trump, this belongs in the bias against Trump thread.

Often the most heinous or divisive part of a bill is what gets the attention, yes. Kind of makes sense though doesnt it?

At its core this is just that, external interference into people's lives and changing the rights a woman has over her own body.

To deny a 12 year old who is raped by her uncle an abortion, because you know some women who get abortions should live their lives in a better way, seems a tough sell.

Abortion is a brutal process in essence, but all the bible bashers wanting people to have all of these kids wont be around to help raise them.

Do you not think a 12 year old raped by her uncle should be allowed to have an abortion?

Not at all.

If it was called "The Donald Trump thread" then it absolutely would belong there.

That's for the mods to decide.

I find it rather distasteful of you to try and score political points from such a sensitive subject.
Please don't waste our time trying to pretend it is anything else. You have spent weeks attacking Trump and little else.

Like so much else these days, the subject becomes a polarising battleground for opposing factions.

I can't play politics with this subject.

You truly are an odd individual, Hrolf.

"Score political points"? I am not Hrunning for office.

Just wondering what the right wing Trump acolytes on this site think about the hot US topic of abortion.

Trump gets attacked, because he supports dumb s*** all the time. Thats not bias, its reality.

Framing every discussion as "bias against Trump" is a nonsense.

I'm against abortion.

I would compromise on six weeks as that's before a heartbeat. This is the nature of the law that's passed.

In 2017, approximately 206,880 abortions took place in Great Britain, up from 202,469 in 2016, 203,096 in 2015, 201,868 in 2014, and 202,746 in 2013.

Approximately 20% of all pregnancies in Great Britain (excluding spontaneous miscarriages) currently end in abortion.

The highest abortion rates* belong to Merseyside (20.0), London (19.7+1), and Greater Manchester (19.7); the lowest abortion rates belong to Bath, Gloucestershire, Swindon and Wiltshire (12.6), Derbyshire (13.0), and East Anglia (13.2).

Not in my name.

It is a sad statistic.

When one is younger and not yet a parent and perhaps not in a stable relationship, it is much easier to ignore the less comfortable realities of abortion.

Now I have had kids, I would find it impossible to recommend abortion to anyone, except in the most extreme circumstances.

Politics and religion don't come into it.
