The boss of the CBI has claimed today that businesses can breathe a sigh of relief now that the likelihood of no deal seems to be receding.

I wonder what type of deal the CBI and others of that ilk were expecting to get as it seems that they want a free trade agreement before leaving.

How likely are the EU to offer that without any strings attached. My guess is not at all and the strings that they will want will be unacceptable to the majority who voted leave

Customs Union, freedom of movement. Out but really in. Could get worse. Moves on the U.K. financial sector.

In the future I’m expecting control of our fiscal and monetary policy and no doubt mandatory into a single European currency.

This hugging of our European friends and pretending to all be completely the same seems so romantic but we all know how different we are and how they can’t wait to scoff at us having to wait an extra 20 mins at arrivals with a different passport in hand.

Laughing stock? Parliament maybe, but who cares about them when everyone is out and about.

The young remainers should ask Mediterranean youngsters what they think about the EU these days.

Really Mainey, you and your regular displays of xenophilia.....perhaps you should be living in a more diverse state other than Maine, which is ninety percent white and hence European old boy.

My thoughts on the nation's future has little to do with the EU....It's really more about a principle.....It's a battle for people like me to win....but ultimately, longer term I think the war is lost or in the balance....but that's also for the EU.

I live in Maine because of the National Park here, not the diversity levels.

I did live in New York for 10 years though.

It’s sad that you see this as a battle, as I assume you are talking about Muslims again, or just people with non white skin, Stirley?

Who is your battle against?

Still on about Muslims on the Brexit thread?

Sorry Maine, but if you're going to do the 'isms' and the 'phobias' then things like explanations get you about as much currency as you give your targets.

Practice what you preach and continue to live in diversity.

No I think that due to the level of support Tommy Robinson enjoys on holmesdale.net that there is a quite tangible anti-islam vibe here.

Seem to remember debating someone a few months back who didnt want to see burka's on their high street.

Those burka's could be worn by British citizens.

Yep, why would I and should I? I expect all those people who do or don’t mind are prepared to move where they’re already there or stay when they arrive.

Btw, I’ve seen more since. Well possibly more with the same person and a few at Tesco car park. I’ve seen some walking through sanderstead and selsdon.

All Europeans I’ve met I have a lot of time for, doesn’t mean I want to see freedom of movement, or what will end up being having to move out of Britain for a few reasons, professionally and living standards, but I do object to people living here under a completely different set of rules in isolation and obviously very alien to this side of the world. Even parts or lots of their side of the world agree but we’re the fools for watching it happen. There’s a reason how we’re a laughing stock. Moderates? No problem.

Anyway, most lefties would never live amongst that kind of change so are hypocrites instead of being racist as we are labelled for wanting a say.

Apparently they have run into legal difficulties with ending free movement and it has been kicked down the road, possibly may never happen.

Ending freedom of movement on 31 Oct was never practical or sensible. EU citizens were told that they had 3 years to apply for settled status and many like my Dutch friend haven't done so on the basis why bother until we know Brexit is definitely going to happen.

On that basis how would immigration know that my friend who has lived here over 40 years and is entitled to settled status but just hasn't applied yet?

That I would imagine is the legal difficulty.

They were given a date by Mrs May and the government should stick to it. Apparently 1mm people have already got it and if we do Brexit I would expect the rest to apply fairly quickly.

In the future post 2021 the immigration laws would be up to Parliament so I don't see this as an issue.

Labour MPs may not back that, Starmer said the bill has to be implemented.

Hmm, whatever happened at 1.30 this morning may override that.

So far Cummings has played a blinder. Boris hasn't looked too hot though. The short term set-backs are - I am sure - part of the overall plan. Lulling the opposition into a sense of false security whilst heading inexorably towards the ultimate goal.
