Explaining it "slowly" or repeatedly, doesn't change facts. No application has been made, let alone accepted. You could include a desire in your personal manifesto to join The Hurlingham Club, but that doesn't mean you will be accepted.

Aside from that, as Nato's whole purpose is to deter aggression and not be aggressive, why should Russia fear it? They would not be seeking to invade Russia. They would deter what Russia is now doing. Putin's presentation of this is to re-ignite the fears of the Russians that stem from WW2. Fears that are not real in 2022.

Nato is not a threat to Russia. Nato is a threat to Putin's desire to re-establish the Soviet Union. Putin is KGB, a mobster whose politics are closer to Al Capone than Al Gore. His thinking has never progressed beyond the hurt he suffered when the Soviet Union collapsed. With the benefit of hindsight we should have ostracised him years ago. He has no morals. No desire to serve his fellow man. For him, it's all about power and who wields it.

We will now enter a new cold war which will last until Putin is replaced. It will be economically painful for all and environmentally damaging.

And I too - for once - agree with you Wisbech!
He is deranged and dangerous - that much is for sure and for him a "Cold War" is a good thing.

The reality is the reality. If a claim is made that an invading force is essentially the rightful government, I'm asking what of those tens of thousands of Ukranians who already have a government and country and are willing to defend it. The only options are to fight for it and likely be killed, or lay down their arms. I am wondering what Steeley thinks they should do, and whether he recognises the consequences to ordinary Ukranian people by taking the stance that he does.

I don't support the Kiev escalation at all, you just assume things because you are in hysterical 'Westminster' mode.

I couldn't advise I am not there, personally I would stick it out .

I have no problem with that, I'm just saying that perhaps less heat is better than more.

I thought it had been made quite clear this was just a military training exercise that happened to be within close proximity to another sovereign nation? It's almost inevitable that some soldiers/fighter pilots etc would get lost and there'd be few stray shells. The audacity of these accusations are just absurd. Why would the likes of Putin feel the need to lie or deliberately mislead anyone? You're crazy BlueJay, crazy maaan!

I'm sorry, I do appreciate that, though well trained, some soldiers and pilots do not have the best sense of direction and that they and their bullets may stray somewhat. We all make mistakes. Rumour has it they were actually on their way to Salisbury (beautiful cathedral there) so they really have got well and truly lost. How embarrassing!

Well, to be fair, it is the closest Zizi's to Moscow.

Should we be worried ?

Yes, about the legality of this invasion of a sovereign state.
Yes, about the bloodshed
Yes, about the potential brutality if Ukraine keeps fighting
Yes, about the potential for a full scale war if Russia tries to do the same to the 3 Baltic states
and, crucially,
Yes, about the state of Putin's mind

We should be worried in that we have lost any moral compass. We are prepared to let a European democracy be invaded and it’s citizens massacred just because they are not in our little club. Meanwhile we sit back and watch.

So Putin has now exposed the truth the west will do nothing…next stop muldova and then maybe the Baltic states. NATO or NAFFALL as it will be called shows it has no stomach to take on the Russians. Germany and Italy won’t even agree to withdraw SWIFT banking ..does anybody really think they would get involved in a war for Estonia ?

Troops and tanks heading into Estonia as we speak.
I presume other Countries will be doing the same into the various Countries who have a border with Ukraine?

This will confuse Steeley, does he support Russia or the EU? Of course, perhaps he is hoping for Russia to join the EU or the EU to join the Soviet Union
