I agree with this..

He is tactically inept, cannot motivate the players, seems to have blurred perception of performances, fails to see opportunity in matches to get more from them.

Also i feel Osian Roberts is not helping matters.

How do you know what Osian Roberts does or doesn't do?

Whilst I agree, and in fact have been the instigator, of some of the criticism of Vieira's tactics on occasions,it may be unreasonable to over react to two poor performances against Leicester and Everton.
I can't recall other terrible performances this season and we had a tough set of opening fixtures.
Like others I would like to see more tactical flexibility from Vieira to address our shortcomings in midfield, but I don't see any player that is screaming out for inclusion and who is being left out by Vieira.
He wanted to keep Kouyate, but the club couldn't come to an agreement with the player.
He's lost the influential McArthur to continual injury and we didn't manage to get Gallagher.
Part of me feels that he can only play with the cards available and let's hope he gets more options in January.

Good points. On the positive Doucoure looks a good signing so somebody is doing their homework there. As mentioned would like to see a couple of similar signings in January. Hopefully we can loosen the purse strings a bit more as well, after a quiet summer window. COYP !!

Don’t get confused here about our forwards, the service to them was awful. Plus the midfield couldn’t win or control the ball to be able to give the required service. Our forward players are in abundance in midfield and that’s our problem. They aren’t midfielders! Calvert-Lewin looked good because of those behind him. Gordon was superb and we have no one like him. There other midfielders were also excellent and they pressed our back four which we didn’t do to there’s. They were set up correctly to beat us. As for our set up, it was non existent. Not sure we should be blaming individual’s. Vieira was the main culprit yesterday sadly in my opinion?

I totally agree with all the posts you've made in this thread. Although the players might not be of the highest calibre, Vieira doesn't know how to put what he has together in such a way as to make us competitive in a crucial area of the park. Yesterday was naive tactical folly, and frankly it comes down to Vieira.

Only seen the lowlights on the telly but I think the stick Vieira's getting is unfair and he's been badly let down by recruitment.

The fact that Schlupp, Ayew, Ward and Luka remain regular starters underlines this. I don't see Hughes or Riedewald as an improvement either.

I've not seen all of the away games but I don't think our young stars / attacking players are turning up. In particular Edouard's ball retention isn't great and he show's too much to the defender doesn't stretch them with his running etc

As I've said on another thread, some of the criticism is along similar lines to Roy received ie he should pick one (mediocre) player over another.

From them we had a few chances to get back at 1-0 but the second goal killed us off. Similar to the Wolves goal their left wingback had almost the whole pitch to play with. Where was the marking ? 2 subs just before might of upset the team, one being Olise.

Osian Roberts holds himself in very high esteem (several quoted interviews back this up) he seems to think he's a master tactician, for me i think he's having too much input into the set up and changes during the match. I understand this is his job bu i feel it may be detrimental to set up as PV possibly listen to him too much..

Yesterday's disappointing performance exposes what a threadbare squad we have. Luka was clearly a second-rate substitute for Doucoure. How badly we miss Kouyate - who predictably had an outstanding game for Forest yesterday. I feel we are teetering on the edge, particularly as there are no obvious candidates for relegation. Bournemouth who were supposed to be nailed-on contenders for the drop at the start of the season are flying high. Leicester and Everton both outplayed us. And Forest showed what they can do yesterday as well. Odds of 14-1 for us to be relegated look generous at this moment.

I have been a doomsayer on HOL, predicting relegation nearly every season much to the chagrin of many.At the risk of being the catalyst for a chorus execration, once more I will assert that I really do have a sense of foreboding about our prospects this campaign.

I thought Leicester was a below par performance. Yesterday was something quite different. It wasn't characteristic of a Palace team. Apart from a brief spell at the start of the second half, we weren't competitive.

Let's face it, something like this was coming. Decoure looks a good signing, but we all know he needs help in the middle and he's not getting it. Take him out of the equation and yesterday was the result.

I think we will be ok going into the New Year, but need some proper squad additions come January to avoid a tough end to the season.

I was at rugby yesterday and so only saw the result, the highlights on Match of the Day and read a report or two.
It appears that Everton wanted it more but there is no doubt that our lack of midfield is a major issue.
As many others have already posted - Doucoure suspended and we were worse than normal.
You cannot blame Luca - he is all that we have in that department and he is effectively on his own.
Imagine yourself playing with Olise, Eze and Ayew as your midfield partners - pointless!
Blame lies with whoever did not think it was important to buy another solid midfielder when we had let Kouyate go and also knowing that Jmac is a long-term injury.
Add the likes of Ward still getting a first team slot and we are bang in trouble.
Our table position may look okay but points wise we are in the thick of what is below us.
We are 4 points outside relegation and with Villa and Leicester winning currently things are not looking rosy.
PV needs to build from the back again to make us more solid or it could all go tits up!

Good grief. You write from a position of knowing nothing. Fair enough it's your opinion but bear in mind that Osian is someone that PV wanted onboard.

the other issue is that we have Southampton at home next weekend where we just have to get 3 points because we then have away games against West Ham and Forest and I suspect that we will get nothing from either game in the lead up to the World Cup break!
