And your point is ?

That there is an awful lot of bs being put out there by the government which is supported/driven by the right wing press which is damaging our reputation, especially with our neighbours in Europe. Who also happen to be our biggest trading partners and allies. Macho positioning isn't very constructive.

Maybe when the information contained in this piece becomes more widely known the tide will begin to turn. Not yet though. The coronavirus is a nice little diversion for Johnson to keep the country's attention away from the now banned "Brexit":-

So tell that to the EU.

Mrs May for all her faults was courteous and respectful to the EU her reward was simply bad manners from a host of EU politicians and bureaucrats.

So I am fine with a bit of posturing by Johnson it would appear to be the only language they do understand and yet again you take the side of the EU.

Where's the "moaning".

It's simply an observation on how a new crisis like this may well deliver an unexpected political benefit to the government.

On the other hand if we end up with a huge financial hit, either just here or because of a global recession, then it could deliver the reverse.

For once it looks as though Johnson is actually listening to the real experts and not just to Cummings.

The EU has had ''a huge financial hit'' for years now yet you never mention this fact, for some reason?

I don't see anything other than the truth coming from the EU. They agreed a "deal". Now our government seem intent on breaking it. Trust is essential between partners if real progress is going to happen.

Nor have I seen bad manners from the EU in the past either. What I have seen is a considerable degree of patience in the face of something they believe to be incredibly ill advised.

The self described 'one nation conservative'....who sides with the foreign body.

As false as the day he turned up.

Seriously?

Mrs May being ignored publicly at an EU meeting. The rest of them going off to a dinner but she wasn't invited. Comments from Macron, Barnier, Varadker etc. etc.

I wonder how many people who didn't vote in the referendum or voted Remain changed their minds when they saw her being humiliated on a regular basis.

I think she was a hopeless PM but she was trying to accommodate all sides and the EU just stuck the knife in hoping she would lose job and they would get a remain PM. Well it back fired on them.

Go Boris, they want to play hard ball fine by me just ask the French fishermen, wine growers and farmers how's it going?

At some point the penny will drop with them that we are not going to fold on our independence. Now maybe this will be after we have gone to WTO rules, the choice is theirs continue to try and punish us or come to a sensible and fair trade deal.

Stirling has a point like a lot of Remainers you can never criticise the EU I was more than happy to point out our short comings and will do so again if Boris comes up with a bad deal.

The latest global university rankings are now out:

[Link]

The EU starts at the very bottom of page 2 (50th ranked, beaten by Bristol University). If the EU is so incredible for education and research, why are these institutions ranked so badly?

We have 5 universities in the top 20. Non-EU (presumably therefore "non-European" Switzerland have 2 in the top 20. We have been no more-or-less competitive in gaining "EU funding" (our taxpayer money, minus hefty EU-Commission commission) than our similarly-sized competitors on the continent. So why is the EU unable to raise the rankings of it's universities?

I'm not sure you can blame the EU for the performance of education in individual countries that said wow just wow.

Still I expect the Remainers will claim that the success of UK colleges is down to EU funding.

Anyway well done to our universities as for the EU not our problem.
