Na. He's into economic war....because he can't lose that one. I can see tit for tat stuff and lots of chest thumping....but essentially the real military stuff will be down to Israel. Western democracies lose land invasions because...'empathy' from our increasingly feminized populations...why that has happened is another story ......Anyway, I'd say we won't be seeing any major invasions again from our side in our lifetime. Whether that was to be a good or bad thing only future historians will know. As the Taliban said.....'you have the clocks, we have the time'.

I like a good conspiracy. I'm sure that the fear of heavy casualties will prevent any President from engaging in a proper land war. We get others to fight our battles now. Maybe the next major land conflict will be fought with A.I.

But that continues to be more fragmented and diluted as time passes. Both Russia and China know that a war with the west isn't required as they can see what's happening just as well as the observant here can....indeed they are contributing to it. Globalisation and the machinations of certain ideologies have quickly eroded those European advantages and on this path we are witnessing the last roars of a once dominant lion...economically certainly...in our own lifetimes. A future president in thirty years time....won't have that option.

Perhaps, but I wouldn't underestimate American weapons technology. There is no doubt that the sheer population size and ambition of China will dwarf anything American industry has produced in the past. China's development is on a scale never seen before with a workforce of proud Chinese driving it.

That was an an unfortunate glitch in the system which was not my fault. I responded before he was deleted but the internet here went down for over an hour between the time I started to compose my response and posting it. So it got stuck somewhere. When it came back I saw both that it had been sent and his deletion. In actual fact I don't recall, amongst all his many comments about me, seeing any requests not to reply. Not that it would have made any difference but I would not have responded in this case had I seen his deletion earlier.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

Watched a good part of the two latest Democratic candidate debates......Wow...that's one small talent pool, you can see why Biden has a chance. Anyway the Chinese must have watched them too because that along with Trump's poll numbers perhaps has convinced them to come back to the negotiating table. They know that if it looks likely that Trump wins in 2020 they will continue to lose growth......and we know that they misreport growth in their economy anyway. So perhaps they have come to the conclusion that a deal now is better than no deal and a Trump win and then dealing......If the Democrats win...they will no doubt break and bend the terms and look for another negotiation because they are easier to push around. The only poll numbers that look good to Trump are those he invents. All the others look bad. Isn't it more likely that the Chinese are doing what all the other world leaders do and simply feeding Trump's vanity? Allowing him to appear to have achieved a "win" whilst actually not changing anything is exactly how a skilled diplomatic negotiator would handle a narcissist like Trump.
