I'm not knocking same sex adoption as I think children, on the whole, just need to be loved but isn't having the influence of the strengths that a woman brings to a relationship, along with the strengths a man brings, better than just having one half of the equation times 2?

Now are you or are you not alluding that the poor child died because they had gay adopted parents? It seems so with the thread title.

I will concede that there must be a psychological effect but is it any worse than having one good parent or two parents who fight constantly or one parent who has a different partner every month?

I totally agree.
The thread title is wrong though as there have been plenty of cases of child abuse in families with a mum and a dad.

BUT I believe the most well-adjusted kids have been brought up by a mum and a dad who have different strengths and weaknesses.
Like it or not women, in general, are better at the more boring, common sense parenting. Dads like to be brilliant dads and might make an effort to do more of the exciting things but in my opinion one of each sex is better.

Thanks Pike, you have put what I am getting at better than I have.

Because children have the chance of a better upbringing with a mother and a father. They particularly need mothers.

I agree.

There has to be a significant female presence in my book.

He wasn't from another EU country either, born and bred in Britain.

Having a mother and father is the natural way of things and probably best for a child but.... Would same sex parents be worse than say a mother and father who are alchoholics or who give their kid to a nanny most of the week?

I'm also wondering if a child would be better off with any loving parents than in an orphanige.

I'm not sure it is as clear cut as either you or Gusset are suggesting.

It's certainly true that bad parents are bad parents regardless.....but I don't think anyone here would recommend giving a child to alcoholics to adopt......Rich parents have had their children raised by nannies and if your buck has paid for quality the result is often good.

Elton John and his partner no doubt do this themselves.....If I were a judge over this kind of thing. I would have a preference for male/female but the coupling would be less important than ensuring that a female presence was significant.

But the point is a valid one that a genuine loving relationship with the child is the most important thing.

This is always a percentage problem with any family....and significantly more so when adoption is a reality....Adopters need to be stable and committed people.

What books that. How to live like a fifties gentleman?

I completely agree that significant females are an influence. Funny how you diss the whole of the world's male population though by not stressing the importance of a significant male either. You male oppressor you.

It's the natural order to have a mum and dad, but so many families are broken up, wether it be divorce, death, separation, one night stands - fact is, i thin what the op is probably hinting too, the process to adapt kids, he may be saying that these two fitted the bill more because they were gay and it looks good, filling quota's than them actually saying 'hang on, you don't seem capable and then feared to be homophobic' which could be the case - not saying it is, but there are a lot of people who want to appear 'progressive' and take the easy option.

I have a friend, same sex marriage and they have two sons and it is a wonderful family. they have plenty of female family and friends involved with the kids - they are doing it right. The kids are fed, clothed, loved, cared for and have plenty of role models.

Gay parents won't try and sway and change the childs view point, just as much as i am sure hetero sexual parents do when it comes to lgbqt matters.

The only question i have ever asked is - does having two dads set the child to lean towards being like their fathers and them too entering the lgbqt family - then i figured, they'll figure it out if it's not forced on them.

Either way, the problem with the family in the article is not that they were the same sex, is that they could not handle a child and she was murdered.

Sure you can go deeper and think - was he under stress, no maternal instincts? who knows...

Let's not try and create more divide

This was once a quality forum....
