Well it fits your rant about the winterval.
And yes it is possible..i mean a lot of people believe all these blogs and things.

Oh dear. The 'rant' about winterval was to evidence my point about people believing total bollocks that has been stoked and perpetuated by the Mail.

In glad you agree it's conceivable that the moron in question was influenced by years of a drip drip of anti Muslim stories 99% of which fall apart under any scrutiny.

Best we move on then.

It isn't racist BS to say that there are problems within the Islamic community here.

Pew data shows that the opinions of a significant number of Muslims in this country and worldwide is very problematical to western values and social integration. That's not the fault of the Mail but of multiculturalism and a blind immigration system to 'problem' religious doctrines.

Indeed it's whose who seek to cry 'racist' and label others into silence which creates the environment for deeper problems.

This may well be true, but that doesn't exonerate the Mail from the charge of stoking anti Muslim sentiment .

Well, you must read the Mail a lot because I'd have to see what you mean by that....and this older version of me is far too much of a snob (working class or not) to read tabloids anymore.

I think the real problem of the media is to do with the audience-driven nature of the business. They sell what people want to hear. So distortion is often deliberate, mostly sacrificed on the altar of the consumer but also on the particular agenda.

I'm not sure what the answer is but pretending its not a problem is risible. Facebook and Twitter are increasingly under pressure to be 'editors' in a traditional sense too.

The challenge in this country - as in most - is that most of the media falls to the populist / tabloid side, and then after that that most of the papers are on the right of the political spectrum.

Woah there fella, dont put words in my mouth I didnt say.
And I don't think 99% of them do,you are guilty of seeing everything through anti daily mail eyes, because you hatred of the paper preventsvyou from seeing some facts.
And why the "oh dear" nativity plays are being phased out.
As I said I dislike religion so it makes no odds to me,but the fact is that is what they celebrate,in the Christian calender.

Most of the broadcast media is to the left of the spectrum....which as far more people watch TV than buy papers...is a far bigger problem.

Objectivity can only be attempted by reading both sides.....I long ago lost hope in trusting journalists.....Journalists exist to make money...they are there to provide their editors what they want in the vast majority of cases....truth and balance are way down on the list for the majority.

I agree with you on the 'bias' problem. I also see the 'click bait' problem and recognise the issues it creates.

There is a question of 'echo chambers' and the whole issue needs very careful thought.

Did the Winterval story say that Christians had been banned from Birmingham then? Must have missed that, and I pore over every word in that august organ. Mind you I expect many Christians try to avoid Birmingham these days, I do.

Birmingham is a place where people mostly go to change trains or catch a plane. I think everyone has deliberately avoided Birmingham for at least my lifetime on the basis its horrible.

That's not really true, even the BBC isn't left wing, its very much liberal in its leaning, but its certainly not left wing. Liberal, definitely - its very much leaning towards the centre.

For some reason a lot of people see that these days as being left wing, possibly because during the Blair years the Liberal Democrats were arguably the most left on the political spectrum (they however are pro-capital and most certainly not left wing).

Terms like the 'liberal-left' have been utilised to deliberate present the idea that everyone who isn't right wing, hold similar or the same beliefs (arguably a tactic of the right wing).
