Are you still allowed to call them 'Black Cabs' anymore, or will 'snowflakes' get upset?

This is a accusation going back for over 80 years. Orwell famously said that a person from the British Intelligencia would rather steal from the poor box at church than stand up and sing the National Anthem.

In his day people supported the Spanish Republicans against the fascists and communism looked less corrupt than capitalism and Empire.
Many changed their tunes when they saw what the Spanish Republicans and such great communists as Lenin and Stalin were actually like.
Orwell himself fought for the Republicans in the Spanish Civil War - it was basically the cool and trendy thing to do. He was always left wing, Labour really. However he saw the left turn on themselves in the Spanish Civil War and, of course, critiqued communism with Animal farm.
Those were different times. Yet, you might be on to something as similar claims are being made again today.

Try reading Homage to Catalonia which is Orwell's account of his Spanish civil war experiences you can see from that where he got his ideas for 1984.

He fought with the communists but eventually realised they were controlled by Moscow and were more interested in defeating the other left parties than the fascists.

They would rewrite history through propaganda so battles he fought in and lost to the fascists became victories and battles which were won but the communists took no part in became "their" victories.

Anyway if your kids are studying 1984 or Animal Farm I would really recommend it.

One more point

He's a poison dwarf in Irish parlance.
