It's true that fares are cheaper in Europe because the governments choose to subside public transport more. It's purely a political decision, who pays?

If I travel to London once every 2-3 months why should I subside through taxes someone who goes more regularly? Shouldn't the user pay? Or public transport should be cheap to take the pressure of the roads and help working people on low incomes keep more of their money. Take your pick.

On the point about better quality. In fairness to this country we have far more rail services across the country than many of our European neighbours. No doubt transport links in the major cities are good but outside of that I think we hold are own.

I think the point you made that I have highlighted is a very good one and fair and you could apply that argument to many areas of public/private service, however I do think that in the case of something like rail services, their is more of a benefit for the country if you have a good service accessible to all. If your journey to work is cheaper, you may be more inclined to take a lower paid job or have more disposable income to spend on other things and the more people have in their pockets, the less they tend to use public services.

Your also right about European infrastructure, go outside the big cities and your on a bus, if you don't have a car.

LBC are reporting that TFL has agreed a 4% pay rise for their Underground staff.

TFL already has a black hole in its finances and Mayor Cannot was elected on a pledge not to raise fares.

So when the Mayor complains about lack of funds due to austerity, blame the Tories etc. remember this above inflation pay rise. Underground workers are well paid and in principal I have no problem with that but when you are facing a budget crisis well if you were a private company you would not be so generous. During his election lots of independent experts told Khan not to pledge to freeze fares as this was not sustainable.

So expect in the next year plenty of whinging from Khan about the budget and what he gets from the government.

Imagine the state of the economy after five years of these clowns.

Mind you I think the country needs to understand what socialism does.....we have a young generation who think it's glamorous.....they need a taste to learn.

Now that would be quality if not for the fact that it would decimate the country..
Then the tories come back and we have ausrerity for another 10 years to get the finances back on track.
Dont forget what labour did prior to the last election defeat.
Contracts worth billions issued, which were cancelled and that letter about no money left amonst other things.

Hee hee

Imagine if this had been agreed by a Tory Mayor...

A spokesman for Mr Khan said 'this is beyond parody from the Tories who are criticising a pay deal agreed under a Tory mayor which covered a four year period from April 2015 to March 2019.''

But please, don't allow my interjection of facts to get in the way of your flow of vitriol and bile against a Mayor who also just happens to be a Muslim.

Muslim or not is not at all the point. Crap at his job is the point. TFL, crime and Crossrail just some examples. Is anyone arguing that this mayor is better than previous ones?

I can't be bothered to check all the facts

All I know is that the first 'fact' I checked proved to be fake news. So I can't trust any of the adverse comments on here without doing proper due diligence.

WOW!

As far as I can see you are the only one to bring up his religion. I assume this means that those critical of Boris only hold that opinion because he is (I assume) christian, the racist b*stards.

It seems to me that, for once, all sides of the spectrum seem to concur that both Boris and Khan have been useless, yet you bring Khans religion into it in an attempt to imply that is the only reason people may be unimpressed with his performance as mayor are motivated by prejudice.
