There was also that early statement that smokers were far less likely to be infected, as the residue from cigarettes made it almost impossible for the spike protein (or whatever it is) to bond with the lung cells. That all went quiet very quickly though..........

We've noticed this as well.

I'm not a smoker, but caught Covid in November. My other half smokes like a chimney but didn't catch it from me, despite not isolating from each other indoors. Her sister and husband are also heavy smokers and neither have caught it (to date) despite working in the NHS and a care home.

Personally, I hate smoking and what it inevitably seems to do to people who do. But it is odd how it all went so quiet on that story.

I can see a bit of resistance to being able to get 100 Marlborough Gold on prescription, mind.

Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry.

I see that reduced train timetables come into operation today.
Only a cynic like me would say that people employed on the railways are using Covid as an excuse to stay at home whilst the train operators might like to make the temporary reduction in services a permanent thing.
Those pulling the wool should realise that they are akin to Turkeys voting for Christmas!

Seems to do to some people I would say. Lots live perfectly normal lives and then just...... die.

More likely, there's going to be a State banquet soon and that's the second course.........

Covid passports to be scrapped in England.

Presumably, the Government has enough new data on the population to be getting on with. Mobile phone numbers, satellite tracking all linked to your address, workplace and close contacts , medical and work records.

This is from the BBC -

Javid says it is important to point out that around 40% of people with Covid in hospital are there not because they have Covid, but have tested positive after being admitted.

They still tie up additional resources because of their infection, needing to be isolated and for the staff to take greater precautions.

In that case the NHS ought to take more precautions to stop people catching it whilst under their care. Pubs manage to do it.

This is irrelevant.

People smoking and eating burgers 'tie up additional resources'.....A large percentage of people in hospital are in there over one lifestyle choice or another.

We don't live in a police state, though considering your postings on the unvaccinated you'd be fine with one.

In my view that's never been possible long term....and the latest variant makes a mockery of all attempts to try otherwise.

We are seeing herd immunity in action despite all the pointless attempts to stop it.....Even the government are recognising it now.
