" Channel 4 documentary" is an oxymoron.

Fascinating documentary from Channel 4 on how the government lost control of the virus resulting in the current lock-down.

And how the tories are spending billions on their private chums and getting nothing but trouble.

They appear to just trust people with no experience at all, bung them any amount in hope something may work.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

In fairness the strategy has limited the extent of initial economic damage compared with other countries... but now it appears that the argument ‘well it worked in Sweden’ is about to be binned. Fastest rising hospital case rate in Europe, and having to rapidly introduce accepted lockdown protocols. Herd immunity eh. Just goes to show if we’d tried that here it would have been catastrophic.

The economic impact in terms of reduction in GDP has been pretty much the same as other Scandinavian countries - they just have a much higher case and death toll in comparison.

Me too...BBC said last night that Sweden was doing badly compared to Denmark.

This is where I get confused and I am not being sarcastic. I read contradictory stories about Sweden almost daily this one says that percentage wise Sweden is not doing well.

Because it has a small population and a large land mass comparing it to the UK is not really valid. They suggest Denmark as a better comparison.

Other reports I have read say they are doing great, who knows?

Sweden won’t have the longer term damage to individuals and their health and mental health and I bet they have less unemployment and ruined businesses.

I watched that Dispatches on C4 last night. The most interesting bit was when they showed the self testing samples arriving by the box load. Some of the samples had leaked out of the tube onto other tubes they were packed in with therefore contaminating those making them false positive. I have always been a bit sceptical of the daily figures and this did nothing to ease those suspicions. Sending box loads of samples on a long journey to Ireland seems a hinderance to the whole process I thought it would be more regionalised.

If anything is sent to Ireland for testing you may as well forget about it. Our test and trace system is as robust as a ship made out of cheap Aldi toilet roll.
No word of a lie, if you do test positive you may have to do your own contact tracing. You can just imagine how well that works.
'Hi love, gave you Covid 19,sorry'.
We don't notice too much though as Brexit is evil and Biden reckons he's Irish, so we're all cool.

This whole business of contract tracing is interesting. For the amount of money spent on it does it work effectively? I would have thought it would save time and money by having people who test positive contact their friends and families themselves providing we can trust people to do that.

A businessman who acted as a go-between to secure PPE for NHS staff was paid 21 millions in UK taxpayer cash.

A court case in Miami is revealing all sorts of UK government corruption.

The Department for health are errrr not commenting.

I can understand your point - it would be cheaper. However, think about it - do you want to tell your friends, family and colleagues you gave them Covid 19? And would anyone? I wouldn't - I'm already quite unpopular with some of them!

It could be a tad awkward I agree but not as bad as telling an old sexual partner that you may have passed on an STD

I think the majority of people would phone round though. I have had the test and trace can be a bit slow and by the time they do make contact the isolation period is nearly done anyway.

The idea is to stop asymptomatic transmission, so time is key.
