More restrictions in Ireland, mostly aimed at pubs when there is no evidence whatsoever that the virus is particularly from pubs. Basically, our puritanical government doesn't like our image.

That's not actually quite true. This is from a UK Uni study, but Ireland cannot be very different:-

Apparently being for policies that 'create jobs and wealth' makes you a conservative.....That is nothing different from policies any of the parties promote.

This guy is continually supporting and being supported by the left on Hol. I don't know of one person on Hol who is on the right who has supported his political posts....but apparently all the right on Hol are on the extreme right.

I regard him as dishonest and I'll never accept some of the stuff he's posted on here especially the grooming gang response.

However, rant over, he can have his usual last word...it's the Coronavirus thread and it's time to get back to that.

On the HOL anyone that votes Liberal is viewed as a revolutionary. Meanwhile those that think they are simply objective spout conspiracy theories from all sorts of bizarre ‘anti-progressive’ websites. You simply look at this from an extremely right wing position whilst convincing yourself you sit in the middle ground of public opinion. Perhaps you do, in Wisbech. Other regional attitudes are available.

As you are just making assumptions about my, and other posters, political preferences, I think all of your assertions on this issue can safely be dismissed.

That you once again go off at a tangent to try to introduce another of your favourite slurs, which has many times, patiently and comprehensively been shown to be total nonsense, is just you doing what you do. Which is to try to deflect criticism rather than answer it.

You are right, though. This is the important Coronavirus thread, which was dealing with the irresponsible behaviour of those who refuse to be vaccinated for selfish reasons, and the steps that society will be taking to protect themselves from them.

We were dealing with that until it got too uncomfortable for you to handle, so you did what you do. Start to throw out the worn out, old, inaccurate, personal attacks to divert the discussion.

We'll get back there.

It is different. Covid passes and masks were required anyway. Most outbreaks are from schools.

You won't just let it sit.

The guy who defended Qatar on here while it was being criticised for its death penalty policy on homosexuals strictly upon the basis that it hadn't carried one out for some years wants to tell me that I'm extremely right wing.

Ok.

The guy who a few times opined that IQ tests favoured Jews because Jews designed them spends a lot of his time complaining about conspiracy theorists and theories.

Ok.

I reckon your mirror is on the wonk.

As for me, it's true I'm on the dissentient right, however that doesn't mean that I don't concur with several left wing libertarian positions, particularly on elites and authoritarianism for example....You can find me recommending Russell Brand and Jimmy Dore videos, because they tackle areas I agree with them on.

Where that actually puts me outside of stereotypes.I don't know.

I can definitely say I don't like liars and hypocritics either.

Nor poor winter coat recommendations for that matter.

From the recent super spreader event in Norway it does look like this new variant is likely to infect even much of the double vaccinated (though really the linchpin of the vaccines is their clearly ability so far to keep people out of hospital).

Latest data around booster jabs suggests that they boost immune response very significantly above even two doses (for previous variants) and so with that in mind, perhaps we can hope for very large numbers but still somewhat dampened down hospitalisation rates. That would look to be a best case, and a departure from what the likes of South Africa may (unfortunately) face due to not having those same advantages.

Of course until numbers ramp up though, it's still hard to know for sure how it will impact the elderly (or any demographics) even if vaccinated. You can only do what you can do and hope for the best. Fingers crossed for all of us.

Here Dr Tony Hinton, who is a retired NHS surgeon of 30 years, is interviewed by journalist Sonia Elijah about the Covid vaccine booster programme, vaccine adverse events, vaccine passports and censorship.

I don't - I view them as idiots.

You aren't just arguing with me, you are arguing with the government scientists. See my previous post.

I didn't say "There has never been a virus that we are yet aware of that defeated every single human immune system". You did.

I said, "No immune system on earth exists which can predictably cope with a heavy dose of an infection unknown to it"!

Now see if you can see the difference. I am quite sure others can. Clue. Consider what predictably means.

C19 was unknown. How our immune systems respond to it is unpredictable, even if generally the younger do better and the older and vulnerable do worse. Some people will always survive. It's not them we should worry about. It's those who could, who don't.

Of course, we are evolving. It's an argument I have made in other contexts, which you have tried to reject. Our immune systems are no different, but that means nothing when faced with a sudden challenge from a novel new virus like C19. You are though correct to be concerned about the impact of modern medicines on that development, but it's a tradeoff that weighs heavily in the medicines favour from all I can see. Vaccines though help immune systems.

How does any of that explain the very low infection mortality rate or the fact that mortality is still within a normal range?
