Can’t remember if this has come up on this thread before but their treatment of Cliff Richard cost them (us) £2m in the end.

Unfortunately, it's almost impossible to break to strangle hold in our electoral system.

More hand wringing, something must be done, we must look at ourselves, etc etc. ENOUGH I am not interested in the BBC continuing to be a golden goose for people in the club. Strip it back to a purely public service broadcaster in terms of what the taxpayer funds. For the rest, make it a commercial enterprise and see how it gets on in the real world. For me it is not an institution or an intrinsic part of British life.
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

Predictably the BBC and its friends at the Guardian are now claiming they are being unfairly targeted by politicians and the meeja. It's true that tabloids are having a field day for 2 reasons:
2. Revenge, sure the BBC loved it when we have the phone tapping scandal (also true) and deplored the tabloid media so now they are getting their own back. As for politicians they love to stick the boot your fault BBC for giving them the ammo. It's time to defund the BBC, how many more scandals do we have to put up with.

However, when you look into the process it's outrageous how difficult they make it. The government have allowed that to happen. People who don't wish to break the law but who don't want their services (or ideally could pick and choose them) are frightened away from breaking from them due to how the rules are framed. It's unethical and wrong, but that sums up the elitist neo liberal gravy train the BBC is.

You don't have to answer this but how do you plan to do it and not fall foul of the law? Somebody made the great point that after Hillsborough and The Sun's coverage the people of Liverpool refused to buy the paper and newsagents won't stock it. However with the BBC scandal after scandal and I do not have the right to vote with my wallet.
