This current crisis will draw out the entrepreneurs in us.

I remember Mike Osman on Capital Radio once ringing a bloke in New Addington who was advertising tubs of human manure for 50p a pot. His slogan was "Grow Your Crops With My Plops".

Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry.

Mike Osman used to do a radio show with his brother Paul.I met Mike for the first time at Paul's house in Southampton quite a few years ago.Their mother and father were also present and we had a really enjoyable evening.Ardent Southampton supporters!

I remember, and have used on occasion, both Izal and Bronco.

I also remember that neither had a core to keep the roll in shape.

I was a kid at the time, and even then, I had no idea why any company would sell such a material to wipe arses.

Come to think of it, I cannot think of any use for either of those products.

For those of us of a certain age with time on our hands, with the aid of a comb it made a jolly fine kazoo

I am curious as to why you specifically stated "Left hands", so perhaps you could kindly elaborate.

Apropos, running water as opposed to toilet paper, I believe it was in Greece, perhaps in more than one hotel, that guests were requested not to flush the toilet paper down the pan but to place it in the bin.The thought of toilet paper left in the room after defecation did NOT fill me with any glee.I readily admit that I never considered running water!

Its still the case in smaller Greek Islands , i was told that their drainage pipes were narrow .

interviewer " iggy , do you think you influenced anybody?"
iggy pop " I think I wiped out the 60`S "

When i saw this thread it sent a shiver down my spine and further . Back in the 80's where i worked we had a bad tie day , a fella came in with an IZAL branded peckham , the whole floor winced .

We rent a villa in Kefalonia most summers and the thought of Greek sanitation did put me off for a while but I just take a packet of 100 nappy sacks with me and you put the used toilet paper in the nappy sack before putting it in the bin so no smell at all

Very sound advice which I will put to good use if I next visit Greece.Thank you.

At my ripe age one simply doesn't think of nappy sacks!

there's a lot of people here who'd pay very good money for a tie like that

I never knew it was called Izal but remember it well from school. Wasn't very absorbant was it? We used to use it as tracing paper at Pickhurst.
My Gran was so second world war and stingy (RIP) that she used to cut newspaper into squares and hang that on a nail next to the loo. Anyway, newspaper is far superior to Izal. Just can't see the point in it (although I can feel it still to this day).
