If they don't, they can voted out. So modernising the voting system should be, presumably, proportional representation. As in, proportionately representing what you believe in. Or should it just be for those who are "clever enough" to understand what they're voting for?
Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry. |

Of course Sir Keir Polands economic trajectory will overtake ours. They ae in the EU, we aren't. As for becoming the fastest growing country in the G7 that's strictly for the birds. Has to be more bold, and more credible. Better than the tories but they are all a mediocrity.

When Rome fell in 370 AD, the countries that were not in the club had an easier time ( Denmark, Ireland, Scotland etc). All their institutions survived intact. The Brexit weary electorate voted, in a first past the post system, for a Conservative Party led by a lying populist who relied on the marketing slogan skills of an "adviser" in preference to a divided opposition led by a despicable, totally unsuitable, unelectable alternative. Not a very wise way to deliver what the majority of their representatives truly believed was in their best interests was it? I want to see decision-making returned to our representatives. I want them to be at the centre of our politics. Not parties. I want them to be free of party whips and able to vote without the fear of deselection or the threat of a lack of advancement. I want them to rely solely on their conscience. I want to see the outside groups, especially the media, unable to influence how they vote. That means they vote as we do. In secret and for that secrecy to be respected and never questioned. That's the modernisation I want to see. PR runs alongside it because that ensures stability of purpose. How we get it is a wholly different question!

However, the idea that what happened when Rome fell can be translated to modern times was so funny that I thought it necessary to thank you for the smile.

A world recession is inevitable. Debt levels long term are unstainable. Brexit is an opportunity insomuch as it offers the ability for partial insulation, but only if that's the pathway taken. The remainers and globalists within the Tory and Labour party won't grasp that chance though and will tie us as close as possible to the EU.....which kind of makes Brexit largely pointless.....especially when you factor in the betrayal on immigration that the Tories have delivered.....which everybody honest knows was the main focus on the votes against the EU. Low quality elites. The system is filtered from anyone who would actually improve the lives of the working and middle classes.....if they don't sing the neo liberal group think songs they don't get to the stage.
