Here’s hoping if we sign him he goes on to be our record goal scorer but his availability hasn’t exactly started a stampede. Just two middling clubs who won’t pay the asking price.

He's not the messiah. I can genuinely say, he was totally off my radar. I liked the look of the Barnsley lad, but I'm wrong so often these days, he'll probably be brilliant.

I'm hoping we get him a younger version off Mr G Murray.

Benteke is one of the best headers in the game so if we want him to get 15 goals we have to have players who will get to the end line and swing in high crosses. The problem is most managers want their teams to play nice passing football on the ground which can force a striker like Benteke to play most of the game with his back to goal. Maybe Armstrong playing off him is the answer which might work with a 4-1-3-2 line up. This would work if, as folk say, Vieria just wants one holding midfielder.

Being reported by Sky that Mowbray has said Armstrong may sit out their fixture on Saturday to protect him from getting injured and scuppering a deal over the weekend.

This kind of signing is exciting but also makes me fearful that he could just be another Jordan Rhodes or dare I say it David Nugent. Good season in the championship but not good enough for the premier league. £20m feels like a big risk, I hope we get him for a deal that makes sense for us and it works out.

The Queen supports Crystal Palace. Perhaps she'll buy the club then legitimately all the money in England shall be ours. Plus all the swans.

But Eze has by far been worth the punt we took to bring him here for a similar value so it is worth taking, I think he would do well here. I would rather we where looking for a Centre Mid as I think Luka has past it, McCarthur is getting on and McCarthy has now left and we never have much luck with injurys

We would all like new players here and there.I have concerns about the full-back positions and we don't have a threat down the right. There is a case for another striker different to Benteke and Mateta but it is all a question of finances and priorities.

We have spent nigh on £40 Mill this summer and we didn't get a penny when a number of players left!

Agree with much of this.
I don’t think Mitchell is ready for a full Premier League season with no challenge.
Ward has been a favourite of mine for years , but to look at it objectively I’m not sure he will suit the way Vieira appears to want to play.I haven’t been entirely convinced by Clyne either and even if Ferguson gets fit this looks to be some way off.
I’m not disputing that Mitchell, Ward and Clyne can ‘do a job ‘ for the team - but is that enough over a season?
At the moment Ayew is being shoehorned into the position right of the front 3 but doesn’t really look the part there.
He’s a valuable squad player, but not really answer for the right sided position.
Perhaps Olise will take this position when fit.
I like Armstrong, and he offers something different to our other strikers as a sharp player who gets his shots away quickly .
But how does he fit into Vieira’s seemingly preferred front 3?
Assuming Benteke takes the central role Armstrong would need to take one of the positions either side of Benteke - a role to which it’s not clear he’s suited.
Armstrong would definitely offer something different from the bench if we wanted to change formation game.
Potentially it’s a lot of money to perform such a role though.

We can only hope the club do have the means. When the club decided to off load six or seven players from the first team squad .
They had to be aware of the potential cost of replacements. As for the striker situation, we must have more than two real options in the position. Maybe the rumoured 80 mill was not just a rumour. If we pay for Armstrong, it really starts to look as if the spending could go that way. Where this money has come from is the question after the austerity practised in recent years .?
Where ever it has come from it’s a welcome change in direction,. The only problem being it can’t stop here, if progress is to be made in the next few seasons. As some of those retained will not do for much longer.

Good signing if it happens. Always a bit suspicious when you get multiple teams interested. Blackburn forked out quite a lot from
him so feel 20m is reasonable from a premier league side but are we willing to pay
