Doesn't the term blackmail come from the Anglo-Scottish borders? It was money given to the robbers (reivers?) to stop them taking your livestock, I think. I could always look it up. Maybe 15/16th Century, "Border Surnames".

If you allege some serious stuff, then it's only right to involve the police

A Conservative backbencher who accused Downing Street of trying to "blackmail" MPs seeking to oust Boris Johnson is to meet police to discuss his allegations.

William Wragg said he will be speaking to a Met Police detective in the House of Commons early next week, after requesting a meeting with the force.

The MP, who wants the prime minister to quit, said he wanted to leave any probe to "experts" rather than No 10. (BBC website)

And if he is wrong / exaggerating then he should be prosecuted for wasting police time. MPs these days seem all to ready to call the police over policial matters, they are tone deaf.

Try getting to he police to come out if you are burgled.

Pressure now coming from tory MPs.

Why, when the law has been broken, on multiple occasions. do the police not investigate?

This hunt on boris is getting very similar to the trump hunt.
The media choosing who they want in charge.

Indeed. The whole thing stinks. The media in this country is being run by useful idiots.
Even the young, ambitious muppets in his own party are betraying their golden goose.

We shouldn't be surprised.

The golden goose betrayed them, surely.

How many lies can someone in BoJos position get away with, year on year?

Wragg though is not just another backbencher. He is both Chairman of the Commons Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee and Vice-Chairman of the 1922 Committee. His word matters. If you don't believe that the suggestion that our Government has been indulging in corrupt behaviour ought to be investigated then we disagree. It's a very serious accusation which someone of his standing would not make lightly.

It has nothing at all to do with the media.

Both Trump and Johnson have brought their houses of cards down on themselves by their own hands. Behave honourably, honestly and within the law, and you have nothing to fear.

I have personal experience of Johnson telling a lie which has cost me £10,000. Trying to get it acknowledged, let alone rectified is a humongous task, but I am not known as Mr Tenacity for nothing. There may have to be a class action, but I will get my money. I won't go into details. Anyone who wants them can send me a PM. This man deserves to be toast. He is a parody, not a prime minister.

Golden Goose! You're having a laugh.

More like a sitting duck, now illuminated by the glare of all the stupidity he has created through his own ineptitude.

So you have a personal vendetta which is different and now it all comes together why you have the attitude towards the man.
Claims of bullying and threats over funding within hmg's is nothing new. I would say that has and will be there for ever.
It is part of the political workings. You being so 'learned' should know that !
