I've just read a transcript of Volodymyr Zelensky's speech in Westminster yesterday. You have to say the man is a brilliant orator and has some pluck in the face of what's going on back home.

He can sure hold an audience, foreign big wigs at that, and he's not backward in coming forward to ask for more help.

Can't blame him one iota, it's not just Ukraine but the West as a whole at stake. But, we don't have that many resources to look after ourselves without loaning a whole bunch to Ukraine.

I hope we give his Country all the assistance he requires. But I also hope other Western countries help too and that we're not left with no defences of our own.

I'm sorry but I think your opinion on this is wrong.

You could literally see us wiped out over a war that has nothing to do with us.

I have children that deserve to live.

Zelensky is corrupt and a liar and a pawn in a larger game being played by even bigger liars.

Thought you might have a view on this Stirling. Frankly, I've no idea who's right on this, except I do strongly believe Putin is wrong.

Maybe, there is no 'right' about this, maybe there are several 'wrongs'. This is a war like many other wars, it's about interests....There is no win in this war for us.

Did you believe our politicians over Iraq? Did you believe them over Libya? Syria?

If we know that these people don't tell us the truth about situations before I have no idea why you'd lap it up now.

The only thing that comes out of this war for us is more expensive energy and food....that's it.

Zelensky had the advantage of no one knowing who he was before the war started.

He is corrupt as f***, its clear to everyone he has pawned himself out to the west but in his defence one of his main jobs is to raise as much money as possible for the defence of Ukraine and the bloke is an absolute master at that.

Russia is almost certainly starting a new offensive in the North of the country soon.

This is very difficult clearly we don't want anyone as inexperienced as Sunak pledging things that may result in hypersonic doo-dahs arriving in our back gardens.

And we want to help Ukraine to win, rather than be ground down over the years.

Really what is the US going to do, so far not supplying F-16 jets.

I bet no-one's thought about a clause for reparation after this is all over either. We spent the next 50 odd years repaying the US and Canada for WWII help. Now they just seem to write it all off...

It's not the picture people are being presented with over Zelensky and I was full of praise for him at the start but you're right. As soon as you dig into all of this the picture all gets very Dorian Gray. The guy is a pathological liar....no wonder he's so popular with our leaders.

People want goodies and baddies so much that they will just prefer the fantasy they are sold.

Tell me about it.

Ukraine's done, whatever the war result....unwittingly sold its sold to the US. Pride parades and non European immigration are its future.

I just want to add, I am nervous about handing over current gen Tanks & Jets to the Ukrainians.

The Ukrainian military will abandon a Challenger 2 just as quickly as the Russians will a T series tank.
This gives the Russians & the Chinese a great opportunity to capture one & reverse engineer our tech.

I'd rather not give the Russians and Chinese a leg up on our tech.

I agree, but I doubt that Ukrainians will be manning them much. I doubt they will deploy them much in risky situations....which does kind of make it a bit pointless.

The German and US tanks were what they wanted.....they want fighter jets as well.

I simply do not envisage a scenario whereby the West keeps supplying arms for years and eventually Russia is defeated on the battlefield and the Donbas is returned to Ukrainian control.

This conflict will not end with a military victory but a negotiated settlement.Perhaps the West will encourage Zelenskyy to negotiate, taking the stance that enough is enough in terms of military support, they really have to look after their own security interests and not see their military hardware diminish as a result of transferring equipment to Ukraine.

I do have sympathy for the Ukrainians and a little less for Zelensky but less still for Putin as he is just after the valuables. And yes I do know a little about the recent history and the Russians and the Minsk agreement.

Enjoying getting up later and not having someone who knows better than me (apart from the missus of course).
