Apparently the same authorities who allowed rapes to continue for decades while knowingly keeping it from the public will take 'appropriate action'. I think whoever is willing to defend our institution's actions in reacting to racially motivated mass rape crimes doesn't really have any creditability when it comes to judging what is 'appropriate' or not. This thread isn't based on that at all and I've read the entire piece. At the end participants talk about trans men/women they were in prison with - who reverted to male on release. Anecdotal perhaps, but the entire research is, as it was based on inmates views and experiences.

I guess the Law Society are annoyed with the Lancet for making the headlines over the last few years, so we should ignore their outrageous stories too.

Putin is doing what he has been doing for a number of years. Exploiting prejudices in the west and weakening its resolve. Anyone who believes he is sincere is fooling themselves and assisting him. Transgender people are not "disgusting degenerates" and nor are those who try to help and advise them come to terms with their situations. I possibly know a little more than most about how this is done, and it is very, very far from encouragement. It's careful, understanding and loving. A "decent society" is one which cares for all of its people, and doesn't exclude some because of historical prejudices and ignorance. Women have no more reason to fear a transgendered woman in a toilet than any other woman. Ensuring confidence tricksters don't exploit the situation is a separate issue, which is being addressed. That education campaigns are underway to assist in changing deep-rooted attitudes, and overcoming prejudice, is to the credit of those help fund them. It makes my blood boil to see the Luddites resisting progress in so many areas. Morality is what a society determines to be “right” and “acceptable.” That isn't set in stone for all time. It changes as we change, and we change with knowledge and education. That some take longer is regrettable, and inevitable, but cannot, and will not, be allowed to stand in the way of progress.

The story is not actually about a transexual. It's about a confidence trickster who faked being a transexual. That's a valid story of concern.

I can't imagine for one moment why a male sex offender might say he's trans and then go to a building where he's locked in with hundreds of women who have not had any male sexual encounters for months or years. Sounds like a living hell for a sex perv.

You learn something every day!

Only when people raise concerns about this they are shouted down as Transphobic. The people who supposedly speak for the Trans community might like to think about that. Rarely will you hear a Trans spokesperson condemn the obvious perverts who are taking advantage and gaming the justice system. As for where they should be put, if they do not feel safe in a mens prison put them in a special wing with all the other perverts most are in jail for sex crimes.
